P3D V5.2 is out now

Do you have any add-ons like Envshade?

I'd consider any shader add-on to be completely incompatible with v5.2 at the moment. Even if you think it's not enabled, it's probably trying to override shaders.

Also as @mpo910 said, it's a good idea to report the issue in official P3D forum.

Made a clean install without any Envshade - deleted all shader caches and folders incl. Windows 10 DX-Cache.

I did - no response so far.

Pity.

I can click and see menu, but each option open only settings on 2D monitor so it makes no sense ;).

Most things are correct you say. But You could change views via that way (standard/default P3D view system).

But I do understand what you mean.

Ask LM...I would suggest.

Are you talking about EA clouds? They are not "made of" textures, they are completely procedurally generated using noise within shaders.

Fascinating. So I would assume they are less resource intensive than typical 2D clouds.

It depends. As clouds don't have a volume, they need to be ray-marched (ray-traced), which causes a really significant performance impact.

For low cloud coverage, 2D clouds usually perform better while for high coverage volumetric clouds might perform better, but don't expect anything magical.

It looks like LM is experimenting with amortization, which can potentially increase performance a lot.

I doubt that.  I think the advantage is they are not repetitive like texture-based sprites, as they are generated using pseudo-random noise.  But less resource-intensive?  I've not seen anything that would lead me to that conclusion.

Well, I have a 3090 card so I think I'll be okay at High setting without cooking the card long term. Thanks for the replies.

Do you use AIG?  Have you seen the other thread about clearing shaders?

I uninstalled the client, deleted the shaders, and reinstalled the client.  All working well with AIG now.

People who haven't updated their Chaseplane to v5.2 are reporting same issues - are you sure that your Chaseplane is up-to-date?

The first 2 look very good. Happy to see that.

The last one ….. obvious grid pattern and totally flat clouds.

@GSalden To be honest, I am being facetious/flippant. I think it looks terrible, hasn't really improved enough for my liking and is a retrograde step. The only benefit now is to turn off truesky clouds and go back to 2D sprites for me until the other sim matures enough

Well, IM disappointed I didnt seem to have as great an out of the box experience as others.  Uninstalled all the components and reinstalled 5.2.

I have worse performance, black textures, CTD with all addons Ive tried so far.  The menu stuff is shifty for me, sometimes it just isnt working.  Overall I dont feel like I've installed the same sim as others here 😕

The TFDi-Design B717 was a hog on VRAM in all previous versions of P3Dv5. Now, on my rig it does not go above 4.2GB even at night. So far, I had no DXGI error. One problem, however, is still there with this bird: landing- and taxi lights are much to bright. This has been posted repeatedly on the TFDi-forum, but - surprisingly - they blame LM. Does someone here know how to edit the respective effects (.fx) text files to cure this annoying problem?

Thank you,

Michael
