Need a screenshot utility? SnapShooter 2007 is out!

Can I post this here?Maybe, just maybe, some of you have heard of the first version of SnapShooter. It's a simple screen shooter for Windows, automating the task of taking screen shots in Windows and saving them to disk. The reason for posting here is that flight simmers are big fans of this kind of programs, makes it easy to take screenshots in FSim!Well SnapShooter 2007 has just been released and please take a look if you want to make image capturing in your games and applications a no-brainer! It's free!There must be a million programs like this on the net, why this?Besides the expected features like naming your images and resizing them, it supports plugins and can do just about anything with the images provided the right plugin! That's so funny. I was just looking for this utility 2 weeks ago and it was nowhere to be found, not the new version OR the old version anywhere on the net as far as I could find. Fortunately, I still had an old copy of the 2.21 version full installation I had downloaded a while back, I couldn't even find the old version.Thanks for the update!Any downsides to the new version? It seems very commercial, so kind of scary looking that it's free. The old version was fantastic, best tool ever. Simple, fast, did all you wanted from a snap tool. The new version doesn't add a single essential feature, and is much slower to load.

It does add capture the active window, which I couldn't get the old version to do. Kind of a pain to have to resize images all the time. Thanks for the input guys. I know it's slower to load, that IS a pain, I'll see what I can do. I've even been thinking of making a 'lite' version of the program that simply replicates the old version with just a few new options, maybe some people will favor that instead.Note that you don't have to resize the images all the time, if you leave the values at 0 the images will be their original size.And, it's totally free, no caveats hehe.Regards,Johan

Johan,Thank you very much for this utility. I use it a lot.Instead of resize, I should have said crop. The problem is that I couldn't figure out how to capture the active window with version 2.21. So I end up capturing the screen and then cropping out what I don't want. Flyingscool:I see what you mean. No the original program had only limited capability and couldn't crop or capture just the active window. In the 2007 version you can capture the active window and even remove the title bar and borders with a single option. However I'm currently writing a replica of version 2.11 with some additional basic features like cropping and capturing the active window. And without the bugs :).That should make everybody happy being able to choose between a basic and an advanced version. Please don't hesitate to take this opportunity to suggest a feature for the basic version - I can't develop a successful program without knowing what the users (you) need!Bo:Thanks a lot for your input, I'm very happy you like it!

OK I take that back. I just discovered the automatic title removal option -- you have my vote. It is the best screenshooter, ever, AGAIN!(Just make it load a bit faster ;)

hi Johan or anyone who knows the answer1. can you edit the pictures after you have saved them using your program - i.e. adding water mark or greyscale etc.?2. can you crop the picture to isolate certain areas of interest?thanksBo

Sure, it's just a jpg or bmp or whatever format image you choose. Bo:It's currently not possible to do what you're asking, using SnapShooter to edit the images after they've been saved.. Well it is kind of, you could use 'Explicit mode' and take your pictures, and they will all be saved within the program. Then you can edit them and then save them or do whatever you want from within the program. This isn't automated though - you'd have to do it for every image.Is it because you need to crop the images first?Cropping isn't implemented in the program right now, but I could easily write a very simple cropping plugin if you like. That way you could put the cropping plugin before all the other plugins, and everything would be automatically taken care of.Or is it another reason?Regards,Johan Johansonjohan@salientsoft.net

Thomas:There was one bug that some users experienced, they got 2 identical images per capture sometimes.Bo:I don't know what you mean by making it semi-automated. Care to explain? The thing is SnapShooter won't do anything to the images after they've been saved to the hard drive. It's all about moving the plugins up and down in the list to make things happen in a certain order (before the Save plugin).So, obviously, the watermark plugin should be positioned above the save plugin in the list. You know how to get there, yes? And it has to be enabled (checked). That way you'll get watermarked images. Anyway maybe you already knew this, sorry in that case!The same thing goes for the crop plugin once it's done, you have to put it above the save plugin and then enable it by checking it.
