NATIONAL AIRLINES CARGO (747BCF) - 10 images...

Featured Replies

B747-400BCF is an interesting 747 variant (or more correctly a "conversion") of the PAX B747-400, that, as a 747 (simmer) fan, has long drawn my attention. Some of you 747 simmers/lovers, from the yesteryear, may recall that there is/was an excellent 747BCF extension available for the iFly 744 (P3D users). In any case, today, in the Library, I ran into this nice looking (Posky) 747BCF model, in the color of NATIONAL AIRLINES.

The -400BCF freighter is different from the (typical) -400F. The BCF is a ("Boeing" Converted Freighter) conversion of a (Pax) B747-400 (therefore, so to speak, it gives "new life to old Jumbos"...the tradition of Pax-to-Freighter (P2F) conversion (via a 3rd-party), is well-known since old times, but, what's rare, here, is that the conversion programme was actually led and managed by the "original" manufacturer, Boeing, in this case). Externally, one of the first things that's noticeable, in this BCF, compared to the -400F, is that the (distinctive) 747 hump (upper deck) on the BCF (see images, below) is much longer than that on a normal -400F. Of course, there are many other "strengthening" enhancements built into this (freighter) conversion process, especially for such a massive airliner, but, all the “tell-tale" signs of a (former) pax-carrier (i.e. doors/windows etc.) are absent and eliminated (I presume, though, there must be some extra room, behind the flightdeck, for resting and reading, on long-hauls...🙂...compared to that on a -400F...)....

And, the carrier of this post, National Air Cargo, also operating as National Airlines, is an airline based in Orlando, Florida. I noted the (N8) IATA-code suffix of its title "National Airlines (N8)" in the Wiki for it, a bit unusual, but quite understandable, meant to avoid any confusion with multiple other carriers of the same name (the choice of the word "National" being a universally popular name for all businesses...🙂...everywhere...). This airline has 5 747BCFs in its fleet of 7, and, expectedly, on its website, does make special mention of the (BCF) upper-deck; their ".... 747-400 BCF offers a wide-body, four-engine aircraft with a "double deck configuration"...."

So, please find, below, 10 images, of NATIONAL (cargo) B747-BCF.

Hope you enjoy these pictures of the 747, a plane, that never goes out of style...whether for pax or freight...

Good flying..!!
