Near Miss

Recommended Posts

Flying today in a 172 from New Bedford, Mass., over Martha's Vineyard, to land at Nantucket at 1500 ft.  I was startled to have an airliner pass just below me about 500 feet and in front of me about 1500 feet.  No warning from ATC.  Anyone getting warnings from ATC about other aircraft being too close to yours?

Generally yes.  Are you using Live Traffic or AI?

Yes, I'm getting all kinds of warnings, including "traffic alert, less than a mile" ones. That is using live traffic.

Maybe you weren't on the right frequency.

Could be, but I was on the frequency directed by ATC prior to the encounter and had flight following.

Granted ATC is not perfect (even in RL) so maybe the traffic warning algorithm needs some tweaking.

Cheers
