So just rumours and speculation on pricing at the moment. cue three pages and counting of rumours and speculation on pricing🙂, as ever. Edited June 16, 20214 yr by Reader

As if people posting here that it's too much (hasn't even been announced yet) and they can get two gamepasses and still have money left over is going to impact PMDG's pricing direction. If I walk into Ferrari and tell them they would sell more if they just dropped their prices to something I can afford they aren't going to care. PMDG is no different. If it's out of your budget you weren't the target audience to begin with and adjusting prices to accommodate the people who "want" to pay less is not a business model. I often see this narrative that if you mention the PMDG pricing model in a negative way then it’s because you can’t afford it. An comparing it to a Ferrari makes no sense. Did you know Ferrari only make around $6000 profit per car. It’s priced high due to the high manufacturing costs not because of this myth of exclusivity of being a Ferrari owner an you should pay more because it’s Ferrari.. if they dropped the price they’d be out of business within a year.
June 16, 20214 yr I doubt $70 is the price that will maximize PMDG's profit on this (maybe more like $50? or $40?). I also doubt they care very much whether they even recoup their development costs with sales of this thing. This project was their MSFS learning experience. Actual sales of it are just gravy for them. The 737 and other contemporary Boeings? That's where the money is. James
June 16, 20214 yr Interesting. Since the day one of MSFS people have been screaming and yelling " But there isn't any study level aircraft". Now that one is almost here, they are already complaining about the possible cost . >>
June 16, 20214 yr Commercial Member It’s not the cost. It’s the value for money. Rather, whether or not customers are getting it. For a DC6, $74.95 (based on the X-Plane 10 version) is a bit rich. But that’s this guys opinion.

They make up to $95000 profit per car according to multiple studies over the past years. The mark up they have on spare parts and options is insane because of the brand. You can often get parts that are the exact same but used on another brand for a fraction of the price.
June 16, 20214 yr At the end of the day, everyone will have a different view on the value of money aspects. I don't think there is much point going around in circles on the topic. Maybe some people 'no pun intended' need to stay in the Carenado catalog. Heck even the Just Flight Arrow goes for 45 usd. SMH The DC6 will be the cream of the crop (true simulated aircraft from systems to flight dynamics) on the MSFS platform for some time until the 737 drops whether people want to except that fact or not. June 16, 20214 yr Examples like this thread shows the wisdom of PMDG's strategy. 1) Announce the release, but DONT post the price 2) Read all of the inevitable forum posts .. aka free market research 3) post price based on free market research 4) profit 🙂
June 16, 20214 yr I always see with some amusement, some of my fellow simmers learnedly explain to one of the most successful developers in the business who has build his brand on quality products and high prices that selling cheaper would be better for him. Well, that's the classic price vs mass question that you sure know very well. 🙂 I guess - as MSFS attracts a lot of casuals and first time simmers - a lower price tag could be more beneficial in this case. June 16, 20214 yr We have all paid $30 - $40 for a plane, flown it a few times, put it in the hangar. Then turn around and do it again and are disappointed once more. I think that we should demand quality and be willing to pay for it. When one considers all of the money we have spent on flight simulation add-on products, we should be happy to pay significantly more to get an aircraft that we really enjoy and learn from because of its authenticity and quality. The other reason to happily pay more is to encourage other developers to produce similarly high quality aircraft knowing we are willing to pay for quality.
