I have to agree with GSalden that reducing Terrain Saturation to a minimum helps a lot with the steet lighting colour at night. The street lights turn from burning red lava to light orange lights. Much more realistic in my opinion.

The problem is, though, that the terrain becomes utterly colourless during daytime. This can be remedied by increasing saturation in P3D, but the terrrain colour does then become somewhat intense in my opinion. So I would, again, agree with GSaldens suggestion to introduce a variable terrain saturation effect - normal saturation during daytime, and minimum saturation during nighttime. Would it be possible to introduce such a change?

You can just set a separate settings profile for day and night and select according to your flight.

Ok. I was not aware of this possibility. How would I set a profile for different Envshade settings for day and night?

I will take a look at it and add add and expression that lowers the daytime saturation  by 25% for the night.

With Auto Exposure Off the road colors are good.

The fixed Exposure value = 0.16

Max Auto Exposure = 2.00

Min Auto Exposure =‘0.50

I have tried replacing 0.50 by 0.16 but with Auto Exposure On the roads are still to bright.

Already I have sent my findings to Maxime. He might have a better solution.

In the meantime I will keep working on it and testing later today.

Sorry I meant this can be done for P3D settings, like auto exposure

Unfortunately, appears my highways at night are still a very bright orange.  Does anyone have any suggestions or at least experience with the latest Envshade update in 5.2?  Thanks.

This is why I am not reinstalling Envshade in 5.2. I dealt with this in 5.1 and was never satisfied. It also washes out the colors of the VC. My PMDG 777 VC had a very washed out look in 5.1 with Envshade. In 5.2 without it, it looks like it should. Maxim has a lot of work to do before I go near it again.

I don't understand, what file are you editing?

Uncheck Auto Exposure in the P3D lighting menu.

In EnvShade move the Terrain saturation slider 2-3 notches to the left (Eg: 1.1 —> 0.7)

In EnvShade for FineTuning you can additionally move the Night Bloom slider to the left.

Myself , I am looking into the Shaders to make an Exoression that automatically lowers the Terrain Saturation at Night, so you can use the same setting for day and night.

Eric, let us know the results after you try the settings Gerard mentioned. I've always hated the lava flow looking lights at night.

Gerard, I tried that. I actually did this with Envshade in 5.1. It goes from lava roads to a washed out effect. It seems to me there is no happy medium. Once you get your expression file, I will try it again. You should make your own Shader utility for P3D since you know so much about it. I would pay for that.

Try with Saturation set to 1.05 to start with. A value as high as 1.15 makes roads more Lava like.,,

100% correct, there are specific geographical locations around the world where haze is present and with this kind of blueish tint.
At the same time there are many other locations where you have unlimited visibility without this blueish tint. As an interesting example, sometimes in UAE you will notice a haze effect but with a goldish tint. Another example in locations like Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing you will notice haze with a grayish tint.
This situation is not realistic at all to be represented as norm. With a good wx program we should have this representation based on metar or forecast,. Active sky can do it very nice, but this haze and blueish tint should not be the normal or standard as a clear day.

Exactly - I flew professionally for decades! The only places I have seen a crystal clear sky were over the Southern Ocean between Tasmania and Macquarie Island so clear it took your breath away - every where else there is always haze of some sort - water vapour, smoke, pollution, in fact over the ocean where I did most of my flying it is always hazy because of salt particles in the air if you spent enought time at low level it would over hours encrust the windscreen and you go looking for a cloud to get a fresh water rinse. The colour of the sky is always a factor of the angle of the sun and the various particles in the atmosphere - I know that P3D cannot replicate this but it does seem to me that with the shaders etc I get a pretty good approximation if I move the sim location around the place.

Anyway to expect a crystal clear sky is to look for the unusual not the usual!

Is the colour of the tint set in the shaders? Or is it still taken from the bottom row of the sky color bitmap?
