Constant High Altitude Haze

Recommended Posts

Not sure if that was directed at me since I posted last?

Visibility range setting doesn't matter. 199, 200 or any other setting I still get the visible line over water

With 199 you will get a much thicker haze on the ground in the distance, being it water or land. Just try and Apply and you will see the difference within 20 sec.

Like I said, makes no difference. I usually never use 200. I had it set at 75 before. I think it's reflections that are causing the problem. The fog is reflected on the water and it's very visible where it starts to be drawn in 5.2

Then something is not correct if you cannot see the difference between 75, 199 and 200 mls visibility in AS….

At what altitude are you flying ?

I can see the difference. The fog is thicker (in the air) below 200, but the reflections on the water is still being drawn in a circle around the aircraft and the line where it's being drawn is very visible and moves when you move your head in VR. You see this at lower altitudes, btw. I'm a tubeliner pilot so I notice it on take off and landings

I'm pretty sure this isn't the fog itself, but something to do with reflections

Now I understand what you mean.

As I only fly from within the cockpit I do not see that.

So do I, but in VR. It's clearly visible from the VR cockpit in the PMDG 737. It might be a VR specific problem. I'm going to check if you can see it in 2D. I'll report this to LM on the P3D forum.

Thanks for trying to help

Hopefully they will solve it.

I think I solved the above issue discussed beween myself and @GSalden. If anyone else sees this, it's a reflections issue with the fog being reflected on the water, leaving a ring without reflections close around the aircraft, leaving a very visible border where it's being drawn. Turning off all reflections solved it. I had user vehicle on since in previous versions it caused issues at night with all off. I haven't tested with any other settings.

Use AC on was to avoid the milky waters in v5.0-5.1. Haven’t tried with it Off in v5.2 HF1 yet.

Good find 👍

Are you referring to the reflections tick boxes under the water settings?

Great discussion here. I am seeing the same disturbing white ring around my cockpit while flying above the ocean in VR. I will play with the reflection settings and report back later today.

Correct.

I think it's visible in 2d as well as in VR. You just don't see it unless you move your eyepoint closer to a window, which you do all the time in VR. In 2d your eyepoint is fixed and all you do is pan. I haven't checked, though as I never fly on a 2d screen anymore.

Correct. That's what I was referring to. I haven't tried either at night yet. I'll report back when I have.

I have played with cloud reflections (in P3D Options, World, Water and Bathymetrie). For me, the white ring is visible in VR independently of cloud reflections setting. However, it occurs within seconds when I limit maximum upper visibility below 200 in AS (version 7857).
