Great Freeware Scenery of Gerald Ford International

Thanks for the two excludes. I have placed both into a folder that has a higher priority than the KGRR scenery. But they don't appear to remove the default buildings.

@micstatic, the excludes don't seem to have any impact for me. I've renamed the APX25160.bgl so it isn't loaded. The airport buildings look just the same as my first shot which suggests everything I see is part of the package and no default stuff.

You want it to look like this.  Look at terminal roof.  Also 2nd image is my scenery order.  The Grr excl test contains the scenery folder which has the two excl files.

@micstatic and @blaunarwal, my mistake. I was expecting a more dramatic exclusion.

Yes, the excludes work as shown in these with and without images.

How is it different to recompiling with an exclude area?

That only excludes the regular scenery objects--not autogen objects.  To get rid of the default autogen objects you need to have a ground polygon exclude in a layer below the scenery--any exclude rectangles placed in the ADE located in the main scenery layer won't eliminate the autogen buildings.

Enough now! You are hurting my head with all this technical mumbo-jumbo.

That's why I never get freeware. Far too complicated to install.😎

It isn’t really Ian. The higher the entry appears in Scenery Library the greater its priority. So you put 3rd party airports near or at the top and the folder for the exclude files goes right down near the bottom just above the default scenery layers. Excludes can only exclude what is below them, not above.

If you put the exclude file above the KGRR entries they would hide the whole airport.

I have this mostly working. I'm still having default taxiways bleed through with everything in the instructions and this thread. Any ideas?

update to this post. I got it working correctly.

What worked for me in addition to having an exclude layer was I had to add default objects to the KGRR P3D Layout file in ADE.. Then I removed default objects and recompiled.

No more default taxiways!

I just installed this one, and wow--the winter textures are really nice!  If you haven't revisited it since summer/fall, you're in for a winter wonderland sort of treat.

agree.  Did a flight out of there the other day.  Very nice.  Hard to imagine it's freeware.

Sometimes these things are a labour of love. I wish that someone would do that with EGHQ Newquay. I was looking forward to a UK2000 version of this airport for P3D until Gary decided that he wanted to concentrate on Microsoft Flight Simulator

Hi Bob,

I did the same and installed it. Does the snow at the airport look more grey to you than the surroundings? Its not bad but there is a slight color mismatch.

Maybe if you could attach a screenshot that would be useful to compare.

Cheers,

Hello All,

I found that after applying both the exclusion and disabling the APX25160.bgl I was still getting white bands around the Taxiways and runways with "cloud shadows" on, but a clean/proper look with "shadows" off in P3Dv5.3HF2.

Cloud Shadows on - https://imgur.com/a/ZakcwPb

Cloud Shadows off - https://imgur.com/a/ZakcwPb

I found the issues was with the "Snow Hills.bgl" file in the Winter scenery folder. I disabled that file and now see the proper taxiway and ground textures with winter textures enabled and shows on.

Cloud Shadows on with "Snow Hills" removed - https://imgur.com/8NODNqK

Now were back in business and looking forward to some hops in and out of GRR> Hope this helps anyone else with a similar issue.

I will give this mod a go.
