Networking for Home Premium

Recommended Posts

Based on suggestions here and looking at MS's side by side comparision, it looks like if I were to install Vista, I'd most likely want Vista Home Premium. The only option that is in Vista Ultimate that I would want that is not in HP appears to be the networking tools. Do I have to get Ultimate for these? Are they necessary? Is there an alternative?Thanks,ThomasP.S. oops, sorry, I thought I was in the hardware forum. Please move appropriately. Thanks.[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

You will still have TCP/IP and the ability to setup / manage home networks with any version of Vista. You won't have the slick tool sets without Ultimate. The "Network and Sharing Center" looks an awful lot like a domain management tool.I don't think you can setup a DHCP server on any version of Vista, but might be wrong.

so are there any third party replacements? Would I need it?What would you use to log into other people's computers to see what their screens were like and help them fix problems (or fix problems for them)?I notice one of the tools that is only in ultimate is remote login. Is that in XP Pro?Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

Remote Desktop Connection is in XP Pro - Start Menu -> Accessories -> CommunicationsIt does not look like XP Home has that capability.
