Horrible FSLabs performance P3Dv5.2 HF1

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently did a full reinstall of my simulator, and have already installed some of my aircraft (PMDG 737NGXu, PMDG B777, FSLabs A319-A320-A321).

In airports with both PMDG aircraft I easily get 40+ FPS and around 3.6GB of VRAM
On the other hand, the exact same airport and settings, I only get 15-20 FPS and 4.5GB of VRAM.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

are you using an affinty mask ?  / hyperthreading ?   (this causes an issue for my fslabs, if i use hyper threading.)

are you limiting your frames in p3d ? or letting them run at unlimited.   (this causes an issue for my fslabs if i cap frames at 30 in the sim)

what gpu do you have ?  and are you using the HD textures by hugo ?   (this can bump up your vas)

are you useing fxaa or smaa ?  once again this can effect the fsl

I don't know if I'm using affinty mask / hyperthreading... Where can I find that?

No, I'm not limiting my frames

I'm using a GTX 1660Ti (6GB VRAM)

I'm using SMAA.

you mean MSAA ?

affinity mask is in your p3d config under [ Jobscheduler ], but because you dont know where to find it would suggest to me that you haven't got a mask set ?, you turn hyperthreading off in your bios , what CPU do you have ?

Yeah, I guess it's MSAA. It's with an S and an M, that's the only thing I know 🙂

I haven't changed anything in my Prepar3D.cfg file. Do you suggest me to set a mask or not?

I have an Intel i7 as CPU, don't know the exact name though. Do I need to have hyperthreading on or off?

we really do need your CPU model ?

Should be this one:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz   2.59 GHz

Here's my theory.

People on here moaned about high VAS and Ooms, as they didn't have new gpus with more than say 6 gig vram, The beta testers went to LM so they tinkered about with 5.1 and made v5. 2 less vram restricted.

Draw back is less proformance which to do with cpu usage versus high VAS loafs.

Which hits the FSL for example and the moment you push back frames get cut by 10. I've witnessed this

Id say that's the cpu issues trying to keep up with the sim and the new way they have coded it.

There's a 40 page (yes 40 pages) topic on cpu issues. With 5.2

So that's my thoery. But what do I know, I don't work in IT.

But don't worry the IT gurus will be along in a minute with their charts and graphs. Will it help you with the cpu / proformance issues, no, but they love a graph and screenshot of task manager and some graphs and 2 page posts about cpus.

My advice, and I'm thinking of doing it is to try 5.1 again see if that makes any difference

That’s a 6 core 12 Virtual Processor CPU designed for mobile devices. The same principle applies. Use only 1 of the 2 VPs for each core and you should get a better performance.

So 101010101010 in binary equates to 2730 in decimal. 1=on; 0=off.

Open prepar3d.cfg and at the bottom paste this entry...

[JobScheduler]

AffinityMask=2730

Save and exit. Start P3D and after a couple minutes of flying open Task Manager, choose the Performance tab, choose CPU on the left and observe the activity in core 0 which hopefully will be under 100%.

No graphs are attached. Just logical thinking. Going back to 5.1 is not recommended. If you want to learn about AM this is an excellent guide. Don’t use the graphics guide as that’s for FSX and P3D 64-bit is a very different animal.

so what would your suggestion be for an affinty mask  @Ray Proudfoot for below please.  Id be interested to see if you make the same calculation as me.

I7 8700k

1. hyperthreading off

2. hyperthreading on

thanks

@fluffyflops, that processor is similar to mine with 6 cores and 12 VPs.

So 1365 or 2730 would be suitable with HT enabled. I have no experience of HT off but I understand no AM is required.

Thanks, I had 1365.   https://www.gfsg.co.uk/affinitymask.aspx?SubMenuItem=utilties  from this site

but not heard of 2730

ill try them both.  thanks

1365 is 010101010101

2730 is 101010101010

The first uses VPs 0,2,4,6,8 and 10.

The second uses VPs 1,3,5,7,9 and 11.

I can’t imagine the results would be any different but keep an eye on Task Manager - Performance.

Would you be able to do the same calculation for me Ray? I7-10700K
