UserCFG.opt question

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to change some LOD settings in this config file. I change the values from 2 to 4 and then save the file. But after running MSFS and going back to the file, the values have reverted back to the original values. What am I missing? And yes, the file is NOT Read Only.

You need to save your changes then tick read only in the file properties.

No, please do NOT do that.

My product will manage this for you so you don't have to mess with it ... BUT you need to change the Preset entry to Custom (there are two sections also, one for VR and one for standard)

Example:

{Graphics
    Version 1.1.0
    Preset Custom
    {Texture
        MaxAnisotropy 16
        Quality 0
    }
    {SuperSampling
        SuperSampling 3
    }
    {Terrain
        LoDFactor 4.000000
    }
    {ObjectsLoD
        LoDFactor 4.000000
    }

Be careful editing this file, if you save it in the wrong format MSFS will either CTD or recreate the file with defaults.

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks Robert, I wondered about making that file Read-Only.

Will this method work for the eye adaptation setting as well? Just change it to Preset Custom for those sections as well?

Waiting for July 27th MS/Asobo update before I release (there are some MS/Asobo changes I will need to adjust for).  Hopefully the render distance is fixed by MS/Asobo and doesn't have the performance hit my product "adjustment" induces.

Cheers, Rob.

Todays the day! looking forward to seeing what your product does for us

There are some key changes to the files I use, I've made code changes to adjust and testing now.

Cheers, Rob.

Do you have the results of your testing Rob?

That's odd - I just checked my file out, and mine was already on "custom", apparantly by default?

It's "Custom" when you select a preset and then modify any of the options below.

Great !! I seem to remember months ago you were testing a product for adjusting seasonal textures.  Anything to report on that ?  Thanks !

It seems that now, at least in my case, the modified config file doesnt reset after shutting the simulator, so there is no need to flag it to read only to save the modifications

From memory, if you alter the usercfg.opt manually and don't change any settings in the game, the changes will stick without making the file read only. It's only when you make in game changes that the file gets overwritten.

I recall that is how the old fsx.cfg file and previous versions worked.
