Cross-Community Panel Discussion: The Future of At-Home Flight Simulation - YouTube

Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) was released in August, 2020. How has the release of the new platform changed our community, and what does the upcoming version of MSFS for Xbox mean for the future of add-on development for Prepar3D, X-Plane, and other platforms?

Interesting!

MSFS is quickly taking over the PC home flight simulator market. Seems like many prominent developers have stopped new products for P3D (Aerosoft, JustFlight, Milviz, etc).  X-Plane is holding out for now but I don’t think X-Plane can hold out forever. X-Plane 12 needs some “revolutionary” improvement to make a comeback.  Otherwise, if X-Plane 12 is just “incremental” improvement and not “revolutionary” improvement, I think X-Plane will head in the same direction as P3D for the home PC  market.

Their answers are kind of political trying to make all sides happy.  I'd like to see this stream right after PMDG or FENIX drops their 37 and/or 320.  IMHO I really think it's going to drive the rest of the market over to MSFS.  I don't think there's any question. There's no other platform making the kind of progress that MSFS is.

Don’t look at their words. Look at their actions.  They will say there is still space for P3D, blah, blah. blah, but when you see their new products and new projects are all for MSFS and no new products and no new projects for P3D, it speaks volumes.

They’re not stupid. They know where the money is right now and where the money is in the future, and it’s not P3D (except for the commercial market). Of course they won’t abandon their P3D customers and will support old products, because that is good customer service.  Likewise, if they are past the halfway mark on a project for P3D, it makes sense to just complete it and get whatever sales they can get.

But make no mistake.  These are businesses and they need business. But there is little business if they try to sell on P3D.  It’s MSFS if they want the $$$.  And they will go where the $$$ is found.

Milviz was a little more straight forward in their comments:

Gotta love the way Evan, the presenter of the video, could not have sounded more bored than when announcing how 'super exciting' it was to be giving away a raffle prize. www.flightsimassociation.com/charismabypass 🤣
