Took hours but now CTDs are all gone. SU5 is stunning.

Guys, this sim seems pretty solid right now. Haven’t had a CTD since early yesterday and i have done 4 or 5 flights lasting an hour or two each. The popping in scenery is the only thing, but even that isn’t nearly as noticeable now. My big issue was heat. This new update puts incredible stress on the GPU but with a little fan tweaking (i.e running at 100%!) everything has stabilized. CPU runs in 70s and GPU is 70 C steady. The performance improvements are really amazing. No micro stutters. Great FPS everywhere. This update really transforms this sim.

If you are struggling with CTDs as i was you really need to check everything with your system. Check temps, stop your OCing, remove all add-ons and take it step by step. I started without TrackIR, uninstalled Process Lasso, used a default nvidia profile, etc.

This sim looks really stable and it is stunning, but you might have to work for it!

Yesterday , my server would not start MSFS anymore after the 1 Gb preparation update .

MS support spent 2h yesterday and 2h today to get the install working again.

Summary :

- check updates multiple times as there may be an update on its way. That is enough to block MSFS

- use the Powershell tweak :

https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4402187356690-Redirected-to-the-Microsoft-Store-page-for-Gaming-Services-or-Error-0x80073D26-or-Error-0x00000001-when-you-try-to-install-update-or-launch-MSFS

- One time MSFS worked flawlessly with Proces Lasso installed. The next time I booted the pc it only worked after disableing PL ( When inside the scenery you can enable PL , but I did not test if MSFS remains stable )

And indeed :

- try with a lower clockspeed if needed as MSFS is so sensitive with this latest update

I flew the FISK4 STAR into KMDW last night in the FBW 320 and never dropped below 45 FPS. It was SPECTACULAR. Landings become SO much nicer without all the stuttering and dips in performance. This kind of performance is the stuff of dreams. If you would've told me this would be possible back in the FSX/X-Plane 10 days I would've scoffed!

May I ask what software you used to adjust the GPU? Was it MSI Afterburner? Glad to hear everything is sorted!

Here's another update. I added back my OC and things are still stable. I did down clock my CPU to 4.7 GHz to help manage temps, but no degradation in performance and things are still stable. Looking more and more like the two issues I had were Process Lasso and an overheating GPU.

Thanks. Runs great. Yes, MSI Afterburner. I just created a custom fan profile that ramped up the fans once the GPU hit 70 C. No problems since.

Awesome, thanks!

I think I need to do the same, I got my card in "silent vbios", so it's thermal throttling bad at around 85 C and fans at 70%.

That is a CTD waiting to happen. I have MSI AB set to run minimized at startup, and my overheating is a thing of the past. Just monitor your temps to make sure the fan profile is actually working, and restart your PC and load up to ensure that profile loads by default.

I agree about the sim being stunning. I did my first flight after the update last night in a 172 with the new NXi along the Oregon coast at sunset. Talk about jaw-dropping beauty.

Thanks, yep I think so too. Are you using the 4.6.3 Final version or 4.6.4 Beta 3?

4.6.4 Beta 3

I had great difficulties getting it loading a flight but once I got past that issue I went in for a really nice upgrade. GPU at full Ultra 4K is at 90% usually, CPU core loads are evenly distributed, RAM usage is halved. I believe this update will serve as the base for a very nice and smooth journey going forward, pending fixes (which were expected at this magnitude). Just hold on I say there are good things to look forward to.

Simming since FS 98. MSFS rig - Ryzen 3600 4.2Ghz - 32GB RAM 3600Mhz - Motherboard MSI 570 A Pro - RTX 2080 Ti -all overclocked - 2xNVME storage. PSU Corsair HX850i platinum. Average 30Fps on 4K ultra.

That is odd Rob, I too have Process Lasso and have not had any CTD, sounds like your gpu temp may be the culprit.

Could be Carlos. I will add it back again and retest, but I couldn't even load the sim to apply the update with it running.

Although I didn't do a complete reinstall, I did moved all the stuff out of my community folder and started the update. Launched the sim WITHOUT a single thing in community folder and no addons at all. Guess what ? Rock solid performance and zero ctds. I am on Windows 11 Dev build.
