MSFS v 1.18.14.0 should be GROUNDED NOW

You shouldn’t have purchased the sim yet this condition if you feel this way. No ones’s fault but your own. Ride this emotional rollercoaster with the rest of us  or hop off and come back in a couple years!

You see it's quotes like this that really get my goat, the sim was working fine for the vast majority before this so called update. After being in the sim for near on a year, i do think most know how to fault find, and any emptying of the community folder.as  ameans of testing their sim..

You have to understand the reason why Mods are broken. The main reason is LOD. Asobo has been telling dev for the past year that you need at least 4 LODs per object for your scenery but they never make it mandatory. In order to get all the performance Asobo wanted for Xbox, they enforced the 4 LODS.  There was also a 5 weeks beta period where developer could see the change to the SDK and make changes prior to SU5.  SDK changes are going to happen over time and it's not Asobo's fault is mods are broken and at not following the proper way of building their mods.

I did'nt mention mods.... Bog stock sim with nothing in the community folder (i use and have used the Addon Linker for months just for thepurpose of fault finding) Still CTD's just about every flight since the update and hotfix.... Thats flying a default 787, between 2 default airfields..... That is not the operators fault!

They did mess up with the AI Traffic. I am guessing it's 99% of the CTD are related to that.

You are correct on your statement regarding LODs, it has been there in the SDK all these time.

However, NOT All 3rd party developers were invited to the beta of SU5, even when we are already under NDA.

This caused chaos of course after the release because, most devs were totally clueless about the enforcement.

Having said that, Asobo did not implemented the LOD enforcement for the PC version, only for Xbox version.

MSFS should be grounded? What does that even mean? That because some are having problems with the latest update -- or the one before it, or the one before that, or whatever -- its development should be suspended, presumably with streaming of satellite scenery to users cut off? Aside from the absurdity of this suggestion, I am appalled at its arrogance. Ridiculous.

Well yes, imagine if you had 30 airports.. Now you need to add 4 objects (4 lods) per each structure you have on each airport.. (Everything, taxi signs, billboards, fences, terminal, jetways, etc). Then copy each animation 4 times, for each object, etc It is lots of work.

5 weeks (if you had access to the Beta) is not enough time to implement..

This also affects freeware products, so the mayhem it would have caused for users, it would have been worse..

Most freeware developers don't create 4 lods, and they might not even bother to update their free stuff to have such..

You are an 100% right. This is a typical cases we see in all sorts of business. I know for a fact that we have publish to our business stakehoilder that we will be turning off TLS 1.0 for security reason and gave them 6 months and yet at the last minutes, people still came to us wondering why their stuff was broken.  how much time is enough time though ?

Tell me about I was turning off TLS 1.0 for such a long time on my full time job. Finally I did it this year, I felt like I climbed the Everest!! 

I think 5 weeks is too short, if I was Asobo, I would inform saying with SU7 or SU8 LOD culling is happening.. And done.. Just give us a workable deadline.. 

Remember most freeware / payware developers were not in the Beta, so they didn't even had 5 weeks warning at all..

I am glad Asobo changed their minds..

With all the talk of mods breaking everything with this update I've been very happy to find that in reality very few of my airport addons, both payware and freeware, have any issues at all so far.  With hundreds of scenery mods in my community folder I've only had to remove 1 so far.

I have reinstalled everything I had before, including freeware, and all still seems to be good.

If you had the project already done, most of it could be fixed with a new compile or it will even work as-is. It's the people that are currently working on projects that took the punch to the gut. We don't really know what the future holds, so it's all wait and see. That said, there is plenty of stuff broken and you don't have to look very far, but most airports will still work in general as they are mainly comprised of graphics more than code.
