August 1, 20214 yr I just came off a long 'tour' flight over the PNW, and also as to what other people are reporting, this is what occurred on my flight in the Cessna Float: There are propeller blade white line artifacts in this, and many other props at high rotation I believe that we need to give the custom shipping venders a break. I believe that the A.I. in SU5 is seriously broken, and here's why: I have been at only 1,000 feet over A.I. boats and ships, and they will disappear 'poof!' right in front of your eyes. You are not 1, 000 feet from them, and they will simply vanish. I also believe in the pursuit to cull back assets, to bolster FPS, Asobo really hit up the A.I. rendering algorithms, and cut them back tremendously. That is why I only see about 15 percent of the shipping and A.I. activity that was seen in SU4 and prior, even with sliders at 100 percent. What we have now is simply abysmal. Never has a ship or boat simply disappeared from when you are so close. Another thing, is the LOD spawning of them. You need to be now, practically on top of them, for them to spawn, and again I place that as to the 'trickery' and culling of the code to bolster FPS. FPS doesn't come out of nowhere! I also agree that your Ultra settings 'vanish' as well, between sessions. I did the suggestion to Ultra to Medium (Apply) and back to Ultra (Apply) and that did indeed bring back the detail and crispness. So that is also broken. Back to the planes, I have noticed that most of the props will not keep a trim...and the nose will always rise. You have to lock it down to level flight by means of the A.P. altitude hold. There are other things as well, so yes...SU5 is a buggy and broken update. I hope for a 'fix' soon, and that they bring back proper and prior A.I. rendering. They (Asobo) 'smoked and mirrored' where they thought they could get away with 'trimming the fat'...but the 'fat' adds to the flavor of the steak...as we all know! Good things came with the update., but too many bad to make it worth the effort... I hope this is rectified and soon. Ses Edited August 1, 20214 yr by Sesquashtoo

Ses One way to impress users that stare at FPS counters would be to roll back settings from Ultra to medium, without their being aware of it. Then it would be, " Look at all the FPS I am getting now at the same airport. " They sure are doing a good job with this sim. Edited August 1, 20214 yr by Bobsk8

Take for instance what I reported about almost a nuclear loss of actual spawning A.I. (this includes road traffic!) and that they will actually be 'deleted' right in front of your eyes. Such other coding trickery. I mean, ..how can my GTX 1070 all of a sudden stay 'green bar' and give me, in my case under 'Ultra' (smile), almost a 50 percent boost?!?!?!? C'mon...yep...there was some 'skullduggery ' happening in the new coding. I believe that now for sure....smoke and mirrors, Asobo style... and they are being caught and called out on it, by we Grumpy Old Men and Women...lol. Edited August 1, 20214 yr by Sesquashtoo

I started simming about 30 years ago, and was surprised that Asobo announced this dramatic improvement in performance, cause it has never happened before. Unless you completely rewrite all the code for the sim, a massive improvement sounded far fetched to me. Of course one way to get a nice improvement would be to cut down the resolution and features. I am night flying into the New Area right now and the street lights now look like what you would see in P3D. Large and clunky looking, they didn't look like that last week. 2 minutes after I posted this I had my first CTD in 6 weeks or about 100 flights. Edited August 1, 20214 yr by Bobsk8

Yes sir...FPS gain isn't by 'Fairy Sprinkle Dust'...this ain't Disney Land....they cut, sawed, chopped, and then put out SU5.... Yep...

August 1, 20214 yr Yeah. Each flight I find more messes. Like others have said, I'm off to DCS for the foreseeable future. I naively thought: "Oh, there're just removing old debug code and adding a few optimizations; that's how they're getting the increase." HA What a fool I am. I would say on the balance if I had to choose between SU4 and SU5 I would stick with SU5 the performance bump alone is spectacular. HOWEVER I still find some of the obvious bugs, glitches and retrograde steps that have you wondering "what on earth were they thinking" (like the XBox cockpit interface as default on PC and the SDR graphics nerf) very annoying. They are also completely unrelated to the performance improvements so it is not a case of we had to have XBox controls as the default on PC to get the optimisations to work, it was a separate and hard to fathom design decision. Presumably because marketing wanted a consistent interface for people using both the PC and XBox versions. If they bring out a mobile version of MSFS, will we then all need to get a touch screen to use the default cockpit? The point is you can still be happy with the optimisations in SU5 while questioning some of the other unrelated decisions and issues. Edited August 1, 20214 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick
August 1, 20214 yr Author The point is you can still be happy with the optimizations in SU5 while questioning some of the other unrelated decisions and issues. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "True", but some of those optimizations, could be as a result of cull back of assets in the coding, that the User can not undo, or choose to ignore.
August 1, 20214 yr In addition to this, I believe they drastically cut the real airplane traffic as well. Yesterday I flew twice from a deserted Dubai International OMDB (on a Saturday afternoon) and on my way to Kuwait the ATC mentioned only another plane. With the ATC still causing stutters when the transcript has more than 10 lines (after 15 years), with the ATC that still instructs to climb to 14,000 ft in the proximity of the airport and the A320 autopilot that suddenly makes a 180° without reason. A320 that still struggles to climb, now above 24,000 ft. Etc. etc. SU5 added bugs to an already long list and who still defends it must be the people who uses the "sim" just to spot landmarks with the C152. 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
