Comparison shots: SU 4 --> SU 5

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am one of the lucky ones who does not experience any CTDs with SU5, but I am unhappy with the visual appearance...

First: Somewhere between Grenoble and Chambéry with World Update France installed

Second: Somewhere over southern USA

Third: Pueblo Airport, KPUB

I personally did never have any performance issues with MSFS. And I do not have noticable performance improvements with SU5. I just want the quality back, that I was used to have.

What do you think?

Best,
Holger

SU5 has flatter mountains? Ok I see it...

SU5 has more HDR? Honestly I don't see much difference ehere. They both look ok, but maybe screen shots can't convey the HDR differences very well.

I really don't see 'much' difference outside of buildings and the fact it's a different day when you took the SU5 pics.🧐  As long as I've been living no two days look exactly alike.  You may have haze here or clouds there or clear skies with slight haze or without.  Things change from beginning of the month to the end let alone seasons.  There's some serious word not allowed with the controllers I don't like but none of these pictures posted outside of buildings look any different to me that SU4 and I'm talking about examples other than what's posted here.

Looks like they didn't match the building texture pound for pound but the new textures used for the building must offer a lower hit on framerates.  We've been doing this in the community for years to boost performance.

I really don't get the fact that people are still ignoring the Degradation. Ok if you agree with Asobo, I can live with that. But just ignoring the down grade.........number 1 popping of buildings that's obvious, if you don't see this..... Sorry I don't want to start a rant, and it's the only thing what I will say. But I had to say this.

BTW I still love all simmers

Apart from the buildings, which are quite clearly less detailed (assuming the settings for the sim are identical), in all honesty, SU5 looks better to me on almost all of those pictures, it has a more balanced appearance for the light levels in most respects.

From the first set of pics, I see a clear difference in the lighting. the HDR effect seems more pronounced in SU5, making the interior of the cockpit lighter and also the ground and everything else in the scene lighter as well. I prefer the lighting of the ground and mountains in the distance in SU4, they're slightly darker with more contrast as oppose to SU5. However, the slightly brighter cockpit in SU5 is better.

It’s almost like they had to flip a switch to allow work on the update, (almost like you would do when working on a piece of machinery; a square D disconnect) and just forgot to flip the switch back when they released the update.

I agree with you on the light levels, but you cannot possibly mean that with regards to the resolution of the mesh in SU4 vs SU5.

Nope, but then again I don't know if that's the sim options or the sim itself locked to that vector resolution, since there is no info given on that score.

Did wet surfaces really change? Or did it just not rain in the second image at KPUB?

For me, wet surfaces haven't changed.  And the sim still looks amazing compared to anything else out there.  I'm a happy SU5 pilot.

Clearly some differences but struggling to see the major changes that some seem to be crying about. A lot of it can explained with whatever randomness MSFS adds in to a session.

I do notice the building and the mountain detail.

Wet surfaces still exist.
