"XBox Aviators Club" liveries are apparantly "mandatory"

In that case I suspect they get paid for that .....

Exactly. If Xbox sponsored my PC I would use their logos.

I guess you could equally ask that about the Red Bull DC-6 or the Breitling display team's aerobatic aeroplanes, or any number of other aeroplanes with logos on it and there are plenty of those kicking around.

Very true. I think what has changed though is the volume of marketing and advertising we are exposed to these days, as well as targeted advertising mainly stemming from the internet. Mass advertising has sadly sort of become hyper normalised. My tolerance for it is less and less and I find it more and more cringeworthy. In the past I would see a Red Bull DC-6 at an airshow and think nothing of it or maybe even that it was kind of cool. Today when I see stuff like that, which we do so literally all the time these days, I can't help but think modern capitalism has gone a little too far and exceeded it's healthy limits (if it ever had any).

We basically live altogether in one endless advert for stuff we don't need.

It really depends on your point of view I suppose. Yes it can be perceived an overt advert for stuff, or if you chose to view it as a fun logo and a bit of a celebration of what the sim has achieved, then that's a legitimate viewpoint to have too.

When we fly around in our sims and post screenshots of British Airways or Iberia A320s etc, this too is basically flashing a logo around, but lots of people do this and it doesn't seem to make them go in a zombie-like fashion to the BA website and book a flight, and similarly, they probably won't buy an XBox unless they really want one as a result of that livery appearing on the odd screenshot. I think most of us have a bit more self-determination than that. 🙂

From my point of view, this is exactly the main reason why I don't want to use that logo: it would remind me all the time of how the most beautiful flight sim ever to run on my PC was downgraded to make it fit in a 'box.

Not the most accurate, maybe, but beautiful, oh yes it was.

Uninstalling the XBox Aviators club package is working and it stays so. So it is indeed not mandatory as claimed initially.

you just need several minutes patience as during the uninstall nothing happens. But it is working and not installing itself with a new start.

Hi,

MSFS will check only the layout.json during an update in order to validate what it should upload.

So, if you delete all theses livreries but not the root directory of each livrey and its layout.json, I think it shpould be possible to delte them without having CTD or hangs.

You are not ruining anything my dear just giving the feelin to take people for idiots. I carefully deleted them after SU5 (and before HF1)  and the next time I fired up the sim, here there was a mandatory (it was specified as such) download to my computer bringing back the Xbox liveries. Other people had the  same experience cf. the offical forum. Now it is possible that they changed the status of these files after with  the HF.

Bottom line if I may : I don't like them, they take some of my capped bandwith when I download and a lot of space on my SSD when decompressed. I want them optional. Clear enough ? Anything else is, excuse my French, sodomizing lepidopters.

I really don't like the Xbox Aviators Club liveries, and as I will neve use them (and they come to 1.5GB disk space), I tried to delete them from my Content Manager in the sim. This resulted in the sim hanging and I had to hard close it.

I therefore went into the "Official" folder and removed the liveries manually.

On launching MSFS, I then got a "Mandatory Update" of 1.5GB, which went ahead and reinstalled the XBox Aviators Club liveries!!!

Can it be right that having some additional liveries of circa 1.5GB disk space, are "mandatory" as part of the MSFS installation?

I read this thread over yesterday and today and decided to go to content manager and remove the xbox liveries as I don't want them either, only to find on the next launch I get a mandatory update that puts them back.

EDIT: It seems the only way it'll work for me is to do them only one at a time. Wait the couple minutes for it to do it for each one. If I try to do more than one at a time, it locks up MSFS hard and will not respond no matter how long I wait. Only option is to close through task manager.

LOL I tried selecting all of them in one fell swoop. It coughed hard on that a CTDed. It managed five at a time with no indigestion. Same with Kenmore paints. What is it EVERY plane in the line up belonging to Kenmore? Needless to say they had to hit the pike as well.

Not only that... if you have the Standard edition, you still get liveries for airplanes that you do not own.. 🙂

I have also removed all XBox and Kenmore liveries.  Only the Aviat Husky XBox livery remains, because it is part of the package.

I did a new install recently and Aviators club liveries have to be downloaded after new install in Steam version anyway I will not I'm all set I like real world liveries for area Im flying in

TLDR

If you never use one of these liveries you can uninstall them and the only effect is in multiplayer where people flying with the uninstalled liveries will appear to be flying that ugly generic Bonanza thing not their actual plane.

I have all of the Aviators Club liveries deleted, but they still show up in my Content Manager as Not Installed. There are 80 or so listings. I discovered there are some City Updates and some other stuff among them. Is there a way to make the Aviators Club liveries go away and not show up in my Content Manager. I'll never use those liveries. It makes it a chore to find content that I need to install.

do a search with -aviators (or any word you want to exclude) in the search field. You have  to do it each time though.
