Avsim down in parts of the world?

Featured Replies

Don't know if somebody can read this. 😉

In Asia and also some parts of Europe avsim went down and it appears the domain is expired?

All including library still working here in Germany.

Fingers crossed all will be back soon.

I had it as down but ok now it seems.

i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

Had problems here in the USA as well.

Flushed my DNS cache and AVSIM's back.

Did they change servers or something?

Simulator: P3Dv6.1

System Specs: Intel i7 13700K CPU, MSI Mag Z790 Tomahawk Motherboard, 32GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Video Card, 3x 1TB Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2280 SSDs, Windows 11 Home OS

I'm in the USA and it was down for me earlier this morning, now it seems to be working.  I didn't manually flush DNS or do anything.

The registration for the domain Avsim.net expired on Friday, August 6th. When this happens, the domain registry will change the DNS entry for Avsim.net to point at a generic page indicating the registration has expired.

For those unfamiliar, DNS is the the part of the internet backbone that translates domain names like “Avsim.net” into the actual numeric IP address of the server hosting a particular web sit. In that regard, it is sort of like a telephone directory that correlates names and street addresses to the numeric telephone number active at a particular address.

When the domain registrar modifies top-level DNS for a given domain, this change propagates to all other domain servers on the internet, which usually takes several hours, or even a day or two.

The registration has been renewed. The new expiration date is now August 6, 2022 - but the DNS change back to the original Avsim.net IP address has not yet propagated to all internet name servers. If I connect to Avsim on my iPhone using my home WiFi, which in turn is connected to my Spectrum cable modem, I get through with no problem. If I switch off WiFi and connect to the internet via Verizon Wireless, I get the expired domain message. This indicates that the Verizon DNS servers have not yet updated to show that Avsim is back online, while the Spectrum DNS servers have already updated.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

It went down for me this afternoon, I can now access it on my PC but still cannot on my iPad/iPhone.  Is there something I need to do on those apple devices or is it just a matter of patience?

I am still having trouble getting in.  I finally got in with Firefox.  But Chrome and Edge are taking me to a strange page regarding domain renewal.  That still occurring at 21:15 EDT USA here on Sunday 8/8/2021..

I'm on a chromebook with no problems for most of the day.  Some have said something about flushing your dns cache to fix the problem.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱

Avsim website is still not working in New Zealand. I'm using a VPN from the USA and it works. Edit: Cleared Chrome browser history, Flushed DNS in W10 and still no luck. Need to use a VPN to reach the real site. Still get a hosting website page otherwise.

+1.  Did all of that also but no joy.  Eastern USA here and still cannot get in with Chrome or Edge.  For some reason I am getting in with Firefox.
