August 10, 20214 yr On my system disabling Henrik Nielsen's Global AI Ship Traffic got rid of the severe stutters. Tonight I repeated a flight from last night, which was within range of ship traffic on Lake Michigan, but this time with GAIST disabled and that seems to have solved my problem. I'm going leave GAIST disabled and keep an eye on it for a few days to see if I remain stutter free. I suspect the posts indicating the cause could be texture conversions are correct. GAIST creates a directory in the Community folder with the name ending in _CVT that I assume holds converted textures and it gets big (like GB's big) fairly quickly. That directory doesn't exist immediately when GAIST is installed, only after starting MSFS, and I assume after flying and encountering ships with textures that need to be converted. Disabling GAIST and removing the _CVT directory from the Community folder also seems to have eliminated my CTD when I "Quit to Desktop". i7-6700k • Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 • 32GB DDR4 2666 • EVGA FTW ULTRA RTX3080 12GB

I got long pauses using the static "High Level Clouds" scheme which I don't think changes weather layering. Will look deeper into it, though. I have no idea if this has any bearing on matters but I noticed a few days ago that although I had GAIST enabled in MSFS Addon Linker, when I went to the content managers in MSFS the only app showing as NOT INSTALLED was GAIST. I have just started MFSF again with it disabled in Linker and it still shows up in the content manager as not installed. Could this indicate part of the problem? I have no idea. These stutters are on anything that doesn't use native files and adds a .CVT folder to the community folder. The stutter is from the internal conversion by MSFS to an acceptable format.. so you will see a stutter every time you get within range of a new ship in GAIST... if you are using an AI traffic matching program.. every time you get in range of an aircraft or livery that needs converting.. if you have any fsx planes.. anytime you fly to a 3rd party aircraft that has used any FSX features in it that needs a convert. etc etc etc.. This has been happening since release... the problem we are having now is that post SU5.. for many of us, the sim is so smooth now, then these conversion stutters become very noticable, whereas before they were just part of the normal performance. Check for any add-on that generates a .CVT file after install when flying and that should clear the majority of stutters. That's why I am so glad that Hendrick is going to start releasing a native format package this weekend so no conversions will be necessary for GAIST and it won't need to convert the models when first seen. August 10, 20214 yr Author That makes sense. I believe you're correct on those CVT (CONVERTED) files. The pause/stutter you see is exactly what you described above. Ever since I removed any addon that uses CVT, my problem goes away. Graham EDIT :- Just had a thought.. I don't use add-on linker, so I don't know where the CVT file goes if you do use it... if it doesn't put it in the community folder and then you fly, every time you fly it will see it as a new conversion, so that could also be an issue if you are using that. Would need someone with add-on linker to determine where the CVT file is put 🙂 Edited August 10, 20214 yr by Moria15 System specs... But I thought it wouldn't do any harm as long as it isn't called/proceed by bgl files or others. Does anyone know?
