August 13, 20214 yr Maybe I've been living in a box but I just found this: https://archive.org/details/feature_films . There are more old movies there which can be legally streamed and/ or downloaded than I ever thought existed in one place. You won't find anything still under copyright but most of the old stuff isn't anyway. There are also a lot of other good things there like books and audiobooks. I think it's well-worth a visit. Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. August 14, 20214 yr Ditto...Great find! I am a big old movies fan. I have a question. In the credits for Inner Sanctum under Film Noir is a Dialog Director. I never saw that in credits before, I can guess what a dialog director does but does anyone here know for sure? I would guess all the dialog is in the script and the director would determine how the performers say their lines. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

They work with the cast on script interpretation, dialect, and memorization. August 16, 20214 yr Carnival of Souls is a good horror movie with an even better story behind it. A couple of Kansas City industrial filmmakers (how to use your bulldozer safely, etc.) had a dream of making a real movie. I think their budget was $50,000 and they shot it in a couple of weeks. Amazing what competent filmmakers can do on a shoestring! For a couple of Ginger Rogers' first movies, I saw The 13th Guest and A Shriek in the NIght. Not much to recommend those, except historically. Well, that and Ginger before she was famous. Double Indemnity has Fred MacMurray and a trashy-looking Barbara Stanwick in a bad wig (but still good looking) as the bad guys with Edward G. Robinson as the good guy. I see Mildred Pierce with Joan Crawford, a big movie for her about Toxic Motherhood (or Toxic Teen Daughter). Val Lewton was a great producer who made excellent movies that got stuck with horrible titles. It has I Walked With a Zombie, Cat People, and Curse of the Cat People. With better titles, these would probably be revered classics. The two Cat People movies are especially good, and rely on a lot of imagination not only for the suspense/horror, but the premise that there are women who turn into wildcats when aroused--sort of dicey in Hayes Code days. Curse of the Cat People is the best, I think, and really very sweet--not many entries in the Heartwarming Christmas Horror Movie genre. That's a pretty cool site. I didn't know about it, either. You can find stuff on YouTube, too. Watched Fate is the Hunter with Glen Ford and the always watchable Suzanne Pleshette. Not to be confused with the excellent memoir it was supposedly based on. The author, Ernest K. Gann wanted nothing to do with it. Not a completely terrible aviation movie in its own right, I suppose. It has a wild fake jet design! But, Gann's book (reading it now) is a million times better. I don't think I've ever noticed a "dialogue director" credit before, either. You might see some credits like Second Unit Director, but Hollywood types got real picky with credits (often humorously so) and a director credit is very prestigious. Of course, some directors (Hitchcock) hated actors, and provided little to nothing in the way of direction.

I've not ever heard the title used, but I suspect it is pretty much the same as a "dialog coach" who's job is to help the actors articulate natural speech rather than rigid and stilted speech. Fr.
