Who wants an IFR hood??? ACES look...

Wouldn't it be great to be able to push a button and have your outside view turned off? You would just see your panel, and the frame rate would be phenomenal. Practice IFR flight anytime. This is one feature that I really love in FLY 2. Will microsoft ever adopt it? It is too late for FS9, but maybe it can be in the service pack??? Get around the problem of being able to see the ground when you are supposed to be in IMC conditions. I set a 100 foot ceiling 1/2 mile vis at KABE as a controller and people were doing visual aproaches!!!Please, please Aces- If you can't fix the clouds give us an IFR hood! A fix for those who get low frame rates in clouds. And me, who sees the airport miles out no matter what I set the weather to.Best Regards, Donald Traill:-waveFLYing? It's cool. Excellent idea Don. I wish MS would have concentrated on this type of improvement to FSX instead of adding the animal feature.Regards,SD

Within FS9 and FSX, there are still ways to not see the airport runway until the last second; unless perhaps you're miles above it. L.Adamson

Thank you for your replies. I already own the RealAir marchetti, and I still want an IFR hood. No panning or view switching, which is what I think you are suggesting. If not I will stand corrected; please explain how it is already possible.Regardless, even if Realair included an IFR hood (which I doubt, though I only have the FS9 version) it still only works on one aircraft. FLY 2's IFR hood worked on every aircraft; and so would Aces.111 views, does all but one person think the idea sucks? The squeaky wheel gets the grease, speak up if you want an IFR hood.Best Regards, Donny :-waveFLYing? It's cool. Trillions of birds and insects can't be wrong.

If I am understanding what you want to do-you can already turn off the view window in a 2d cockpit by clicking on the view window-clicking "undock" and either resising it so you can only see the fps counter or closing it completely. By doing so I gain about 33% more fps.In the 3d virtual mode-the Real air has the "ifr 6 view" built in as a view which can be selected either as a menu selection or by cycling the "a" key about 3 times. Likewise-I see an increase in fps when this view becomes only the instruments. On any 3d cockpit if you "zoom" into the cockpit so only the instruments are in view (e.g. no more outside view) you should also see your fps go up. You can of course assign a view that would do this just like the Real Air view-you might have to push the "a" key twice but that is pretty close. (You probably could use fsuipc to assign a key that would do it on a single click).http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

L'adamson has used FLY 2 and knows what I am talking about. **One button press**, no zooming, no panning, no view switching or resising of windows. It should work the same in both the VC and the 2D windows; you can look around the cabin but see nothing outside. The windows are darked out.Does that seem like a good idea? At decision heght, or wherever you want, push a single button again and you can see outside. I like to keep the same pan level from aproach thru the flare, changing my view in the VC is *not* an acceptable workaround.Best Regards, Donny :-waveFLYing? It's cool. I beta tested Fly so I also know what you are talking about. Is not what I am talking about about the same? When you zoom into the instruments in the 3d view-you are "shutting the outside view off" and your fps will go up. Save that as a view and assign a button-one button ifr view. When you want the outside view-push a button again to go to the default zoom level or whatever you want with the outside view.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

Okay, I'll bite. How do you save specific views? Best Regards, Donny :-waveFLYing? It's cool. Trillions of birds and insects can't be wrong.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to push a button and have your outside view turned off? You would just see your panel, and the frame rate would be phenomenal. Practice IFR flight anytime.------I think this is a great idea! A one-button solution - simple and quick.Even though some respected posters are suggesting other ways of accomplishing this ("work-arounds?"), I would rather have the simple and quick one button solution. Panning down, then up, and zooming, etc seems more trouble than it needs to be.However, if there is a way to program this "hooded" view - off and on-then I would not consider this a "workaround", but a viable way to add this view. I hope someone can provide a way to do this...otherwise, this would be a great new feature for FSIX.Just my thoughts, John

I guess I am not understanding. Here are 3 shots of the Real Air Marchetti-each of these views is accessed by a push of the "a" key-there is no panning or zooming required (though once there you can). The last two are the "ifr views" and the fps do go up when the outside view is gone. It is my understanding that any number of customized views like this can be saved and viewed with a keypress for any aircraft in fsx-though I don't know exactly how to do this.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/167382.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/167383.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/167384.jpg
