I HATE DISCORD!

Recommended Posts

Irony: people talking on an internet forum about how they dislike an internet communication/community tool 😄

A point not lost on me, but I think most people's issues with the likes of Discord is the lack of user-friendliness, particularly to the newcomer or casual user. Forums like AVSIM are usually fairly easy to navigate (even if the search function here rarely works very well!). Plus, there are a great many computer users who are resistant to change - good grief, Usenet still exists after more than 40 years!😁

Doesn't Discord remind you of the old IRC boards with a newfangled interface? These young whippersnappers think they've thought of everything first. But as usual, us old dudes have already been there, done that, and have the T shirt, 😏

Good point. And yes it does remind me of a BBS!  At least we can post actual pictures instead of ASCII art. 😁

I've always wondered about that too - why on earth was it called Discord, with all the negative connotations that you've highlighted ? I wonder if they meant to call it Discourse, but got mixed up - like people do with 'infamous' when they actually mean famous.

"they settled on Discord because the word had something to do with talking, sounded cool, was easily pronounceable, memorable, and had an available domain name."

So, like a number of us implied, they goofed!🙄 Though I suppose it is memorable due to the irony.

I forgot to add a red flag I've seen: for some servers (for example, FBW and Fenix), they pretend me to verify by giving my phone number. Isn't my email enough?

Can't stand Discord, the name, the layout, and only go there when I absolutely have to!

Emails can be programmatically generated and then abused to create an unlimited amount of accounts.

We would not have enabled the option if we didn't need it - the reality is that for a server of this size we kinda need it, otherwise it's trolls all around. Keep in mind we never get access to either your email or phone number - this is all handled by Discord themselves.

Hate is such a caustic word. To say you hate means misunderstanding and fear.
