Bristol Airport for MSFS Now Available!

I don't have the release but I've been keeping an eye on this thread since I'm interested in purchasing it. I have to say I'm surprised Pilot Plus hasn't responded, even just to acknowledge some are having issues, when they appeared happy to engage with the early positive feedback.

While I'm here: I think it's a little disingenuous for the price to have been stated without VAT, too.

don't know what you mean. I have never touched any config, let alone "faffed around" nor do I own the scenery, for the very reasons I mentioned above. blaming it on Asobo does not convince me when I see how smoothly similarly complex KDCA from "drzwickiewicjkwwizeki" performs.

I think it was largely developed prior to SU5 which has restricted memory access to XBox levels. I'm hoping this will change with WU5. As I have previously said the sim never uses more  than 50% of my available VRAM and system RAM. Asobo needs to sort this out. I don't want Pilot Plus to have to dumb this airport down in any way.

Hi all,

It's been a bank holiday weekend here in the UK but regardless we've still been supporting users on our official support platform.

The product was tested extensively before release on many different PC rigs (internal to Pilot Plus and external). After an extensive period all testers gave the green for release. We go through the same process on every release.

Indeed some users are currently experiencing the following which we are continually investigating:

  • Crash to Desktop (CTD) - sometimes on airport load
  • Stutters when camera panning

Regarding the CTD issue. So far many reports of crashing seem to relate to cases were users have manually edited the LOD value beyond the limit in the settings menu. Given these reports, we are actively investigating if additional optimisation can be done to increase performance beyond the guidance we have already followed for LOD & texture sizes. A reason why Bristol in particular may behave differently, under the same settings as other payware airports, may be due to the inclusion of 1 metre resolution terrain. We suspect the same LOD settings have some form of impact on this.

As well as that there is a simulator bug which won't allow you to load at an airport, on first attempt, but will let you fly into the location - or then allow you to load on second attempt. This bug is impacting many airports default and addons.

Regarding the stutters, in most reported cases FPS is stable when stationary. Then when panning the camera the simulator loads in content 'off-screen' to render which introduces a stutter as this happens. Since Sim Update 5 LOD rendering and view distance changed to accommodate the Xbox launch of the simulator, this increased the impact of off-screen culling. Asobo have acknowledged the impact of this and hence will be addressing it. As third party developers we have no control over this sim behaviour and only have control over our own Objects LOD (not draw distance). Upon Sim Update 6, if changes are introduced, we will update anything we can inline with what is possible.

We will continually investigate anything we can do for the small group of users experiencing problems and push a hotfix if we can implement any changes. If you require support please open a ticket and provide as much detail as possible: https://pilotplus.io/product-support/

Consumers usually have to pay VAT and can’t generally recover it. If customers are consumers, all prices quoted in ads should include VAT in the stated price. It is not sufficient to state a VAT-exclusive price accompanied by information that VAT is payable.

If both consumers and businesses are likely to see the ad, and are both able to buy the product(s), you’ll need to quote VAT-inclusive prices.

That's informative, thank you. Thought it was misleading at worst, naughty at best. They really ought to update both their first post here - where it doesn't even say excluding VAT - and also their own website.

Surely it depends where in the world you buy it from as to what the VAT situation would be? Americans are used to seeing prices without VAT but still pay VAT at time of purchase.

If Pilot Plus sells to an American customer then the transaction will be zero rated for VAT. That is, they will pay no VAT. True for any sales outside the EU for certain. Within the EU is still so complicated that it hurts my brain.

there are look-up tables for that, so your brain can relax and only needs to read those.

since the UK is not part of the EU, that is not the issue here. but never mind, we were discussing PilotPlus's neglect to properly display prices for their scenery product.

I very much suspect that they fall outside the scope of these rules.

They are selling their product internationally so why would they quote the price including VAT for buyers who don't pay vat?  They have quite clearly stated that the price excludes vat and that is for obvious reasons.  Their website does not have a .co.uk address.

There are new rules about selling software internationally and they are very complex.
Here is one article that goes some way to explaining.
One thing is for certain, personal opinion has nothing to do with sales tax.

I was long ago taught at school that any sentence that starts with the word "surely" should be
treated with suspicion, as the author has already stated that they do not know for certain
that what follows is factual.

Well for all you armchair lawyers and financielrs..  how does this all work for me...

Bought from an Australian website, in Canadian dollars from a Canadian Credit Card,  but being used in the Channel Islands on a base product (MSFS) registered to a UK address?
