FSX Ground Vehicles as flyable

Recommended Posts

Guest WARlrus

Hi,Me and a mate have been trying to make one of the ground vehicles flyable...IE being able to select it in "Choose Aircraft", and using it like the "Follow Me" vehicle that's in Traffic 05 by Just FlightNamely: VEH_Air_FireTruck_US_Red_sm found in /simobjects/groundvehicles/We've copied texture files across and tried making a aircraft.cfg file to go with it, but we can't get it appearing in the "Select Aircraft" list...Anyone attempted this before, or got a simpler way? Thanks!WARlrus

Make sure it has a /model/panel/sound/texturesubfolder structure, each of those folders having their appropriate items in them (model.cfg, .mdl file, panel files, sound.cfg, etc.)--and make sure the aircraft.cfg file properly references all items. If the above does not bring it into your menu, that means there is something in the .air file that should be changed. I doubt that is the case though, since FSX is moving more toward .cfg file modification--but I thought you might like to know just in case.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

Yeah, I just copied the ultralight to a new folder, moved the firetruck (oddly enough, the exact same model you used) model into the folder and altered the model.cfg file to have the correct filename. Then, in the aircraft.cfg, I set the elevator_effectiveness to zero and changed the contact points to match where the wheels were, mostly just guesswork. This kept the thing on the ground for the most part. It didn't really handle like a firetruck, but it let me drive around some.

I've got it working now... there was something up with the aircraft.cfg file that was causing FSX not to load it...I've got it appearing now, but need to change contact points as the wheels are half underground!Thanks.P.S. I've had a go at changing the aircraft.cfg file... but I can't actually get it to appear above ground, the wheels are still only appearing above their pivot.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/167610.jpgThere you can see what's going on!Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
