It's a Beautiful Thing

Recommended Posts

For days I've been trying to get enough bandwidth to have some semblance of realistic ground textures and download the Carenado Seneca update to no avail until I discovered that Windows Update (the bane to gamers everywhere) was trying to update some silly patch and killing MSFS.  When I disabled updates for 7 days I was in 7th heaven and the sim again looked beautiful.

This allowed me to download and install the Seneca update and the new KHAF scenery by MP designs.  Half Moon Bay has been a fav airport going back to FSX days and they had done a right job with it.  Anyway the flight out was magnificent flying over KSFO and San Francisco so once again MSFS proves to be a truly great piece of software.

Cheers

Halfmoon Bay has been one of my favorites in previous sims, too,  just for the setting, and I bought it the day it became available for MSFS. Misha Cajic (is he still around? - all those guys seem to have been gone now) had done a great job for ORBX, but the MP Design version is quite fine as well.

Kind regards, Michael

I have Windows update disabled and Windows Defender too, but since the SU5 I noticed a big degradation on the ground! As well as the much less precise and blurry reliefs at high altitude! The game is much less beautiful than before the SU5 at high altitude it has nothing to do ...

I used to live in the Bay Area. Graduated from Castro Valley High school way too many years ago. I earned my private pilot license at Hayward (KHWD) back in 84. Years before I lived across the bay in San Mateo, near Crystal Springs Reservoir. It really is a beautiful place, if you can get past the current political environment, and is certainly beautiful to fly around.

Think Fly! or Fly!2 was my first experience exploring Half Moon bay in a simulator.  MSFS default treatment is amazing - we'd have killed for it years ago.....

Here I have a 600 Mbit/s IN connection and do not use any kind of cache. Before I had 300 Mbit/s connection without caches and also did not experience terrain degradation.

The terrain still looks good 🤓

Well, this thread has given me a taste for it.  looks like it might be Half Moon Bay / San Fran area for me this weekend!

If I remember from FSX, the jaunt from there down to Monterey was quite nice.

I might try the KHAF Half Moon Bay scenery.  Unfortunately, no Orbx Monterey for MSFS yet.  I think that looked pretty good in FSX/P3D from the screen shots I have seen.

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Hi there,

I found this on the Orbx forum. Just give it a go

Indeed. Waiting for Monterey as well. It was one of Jarrad's masterpieces in P3D and a joy to land on coming from KSFO or KHAF in a little Cessna. Unfortunately, I read Jarrad is on some kind of hiatus right now, too.

Kind regards, Michael

I did have KMRY also but the ORBX KSBA is a good second choice with KAVX a must buy IMO.

Your speed is only 100x faster than mine!

Also my speed kicks up to about 10mbs at around 4pm when the schools let out.

Sorry again, I didn’t know you have to register at the Orbx forum to read posts. About degradation of ground texture: After SU 5 Orbx forum member Renault found out, an in-game texture resolution setting “ultra” would result in a “low” setting and “medium” in a “high” setting and vice versa.

Unfortunately results where different between users. Renaults screenshot was very convincing though.

Next thing was in Nvidea CP to change Anisotropic filtering to 16X as this overrides in game settings and improves texture clarity.

I didn’t have the time to try myself, so please don’t kill me if this is a blow…
