Default 787-10: quite good even w/o the Heavy Div mod

Please don't get me wrong, as you know there is no comparison as to flight dynamics on any flight regime or takeoff/landing, FMA, between PMDG products and the MSFS airplanes.
I do understand perfectly about "most people don't dive that deep" but to say that "they are shockingly comparable, really" it's quite a big statement.
Thank you.

I do not have P3D but out of interest what does the PMDG 787 have that would enable me to fly more easily from A to B over the Heavy Division mod on my PC sim?

For starters, PMDG has not produced a 787.  Second, compared to the NGXu or the NGX before it out of P3D, the avionics on an actual 787 very likely will have more automation that makes its implementation of its FMC different in certain ways, so really, it's hard to really compare them since we don't have a so-called 'study-level' PMDG 787 to work with.  But as far as 'enable you to fly more easily' that misses the entire point of KillJoy, whose religious fervor is betrayed in his choice of words, "It's a sin..."  The fact is Jarmstro, you will get from any gate, using any SID/STAR, to any runway from departure to arrival very much identically.  And actually, takeoff and landing dynamics are absolutely similar, but yes the NGXu's autoland is much more refined, but then again the 787 is much smoother when it comes to turning on the autopilot w/ VNAV/LNAV enabled.  I would expect that in a more modern, more sophisticated plane that the 787 is.  I'd not be surprised if the real 787's IRS alignment procedure is largely automated, versus the NGXu's older avionics, as it is in MSFS.  The NGXu has quite wretched implementation of terrain mapping compared to the 787's wonderful high def overhead moving map.  Can't wait to see what the latest HD revision brings to this quite sophisticated and inexpensive plane.

After installation of this latest version (0.1.10), we're back in business, all systems ND, PFD, EICAS are now working normally as they were before!

This was also with the last Dev Build and in about two days you have another more Dev builds and this stable is old stuff because new things are overworked with the Dev builds so we are back in buisness allways downloading the updated mods - but that`s the way it goes..🤔

But maybe tomorrow after WU6 Update everything is changing anyway... ( hopefully not ) but we will see, the time brings up the true.. 🙃

cheers 😉

I just take my hat off to teams like Salty's,  Heavy Division,  Working Title,  JPL, and all of the rest of MSFS's community of developers.   There is some serious talent surrounding this sim,  and many of them work long hours to give us things for free.   To me few things in life are as pure as a labor of love.

If I have to admit,  I get a bit bummed out sometimes when I see people who won't lift a finger to download a latest version,  or maybe talk to a dev,  just shoot good things down arbitrarily.

It took me a while to become conscious of how my own words can affect other people.   Lately I've decided that if someone's project doesn't interest me,  I'm going to keep it to myself.   If I see a new dev release a project,  and it's not up to my personal standards,  I'm not going to shoot it down.   The only thing I will tactfully do,  is give constructive criticism and encouragement.   Just about every dev starts out somewhere.   But lately I've become conscious of just how much personal time some of them spend creating wonderful stuff for us,  maintaining it when things beyond their control go fubar,  and perhaps the most tiresome responsibility,   providing support to users having problems.   Very often problems like not knowing what a zip file is,  where it goes,  what the structure should look like.     There are only so many grains of sand in the hour glass.

I don't even know why I'm mentioning this out loud,  but anyway.

edit: just to clarify,

In the Aviat Husky thread I spouted that I'm not really interested in a another cub clone.  /Now I own it,  and it's good.  I like it.

In the DC Designs F-14 thread I mentioned that I'm not really interested in fighter aircraft in this sim,  but like mil cargo.

Now when I look back,  I added nothing to the conversation.  Didn't give the product or the dev any further consideration then an initial glance.  Now I'm reading positive reviews.

I was just thinking,  I don't walk around in real life telling artists or musicians what I don't like.   When a person is kind enough to cook me a meal,  I don't tell them it's bad.

But there is a way of doing it,  while remaining constructive.     Maybe I say something like,  "You're off to a good start.  Maybe it would be cool if you.......".

I mean,  I was just thinking about the level of commitment of some of the devs.   They often spend their day chasing fires,   and in between they create.    It's a crazy amount of time and most people wouldn't do it.  I mean have you ever tried to explain computer stuff to some people?

But there are people who balk at the concept of joining their support discord,  because,   reasons.      There are people who act like an email address used for a log in is gold.  Meanwhile,  they could create a throw away email account.

Anyway,  not talking about anyone specific.   Please don't take it as such.   More like reflecting on my own actions.

The new HD mod version created a problem for me I'm not sure how to resolve, and this is in contrast to the OEM version.  Perhaps you can help...

When ATC directs me to climb to FL x, things seemed to work fine until I got up in altitude over FL300.  I would simply dial up the next step, hit the center of the ALT adjust button, and in VNAV the plane would climb.  At some point, it stopped doing this and the only way I could move up was to change to VS mode of FLC.  I doubled checked ALT setting in the flight plan VNAV page, set the ALT to match as I had all the way up, but then it would drop in altitude when in VNAV mode, slowing the autothrottle speed setting lower and lower as in below 200knots so at that point I switched to FLC and finally ended up disabling the autothrottle.   The OEM version never did anything like this, so what should I be looking at?  Thrust Lim was maxed, and flight cost was at 100%.

What should I look at, or is it a bug?

Thanks in advance

Noel

Bernard, when you get a moment look at my post above and see if you can add some insight into why this happened.  I suppose I need to do another flight and see if that was a fluke.

In addition to or rather than posting the issue here it would be a good idea to report it directly to the devs on their Discord.

This is just something I have read but is it true that Asobo have copy-pasted Airbus code into the 787? As in the A320 FBW behavior is embedded into the 787?

I hope this is not true 😮

I did experience a couple of situations where what happened to you also happened to me. On my first and only flight yesterday with the new MOD, the A/T would not stay on after takeoff, I realised that when my speed was dangerously slipping down, I monitored it manually and restarted A/T, after a few seconds, it did control the speed again and I never had to take over there after.

Upon reaching ToD, I dialed the new altitude and the plane started its descent normally, but after about 2'000 feet, it stabilized and again the speed started winding down, I had to switch to VS.

The STD altitude button also is not working, but this is minor. I will report those to the team. It remains that I am thrilled to see what they have done to improve this aircraft so far and do hope today's WU6 won't break anything to their superb work.

We ought to be terribly grateful to all these "volunteer" developers improving this great hobby, FlyByWire, Heavy, Salty, Working Title and H Nielsen to name only a few of these sharing their passion with such altruism!

Hats off to you ladies and gentlemen!

As I am brand new at the 787-10, let alone the HD mod, I wanted to run my experience by someone more familiar in case I am doing something wrong.  I have a long history of reporting to devs, Orbx, MSFS Forum zendesks x8, LVFR, but yes I agree it's good to give feedback to the right folks.
