Problem with severe stuttering

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's location dependent because in my case it has happened in 3 locations far from each other, and at different altitudes.  It has also happened with 3 different aircraft, all stock or freeware "light" planes.

I have deleted my cfg file and let P3D build a new one.  My settings have been dialed back a good bit now.

I'll report if it happens again.

Dave

If you see it again, turn off your AI traffic and see if that fixes it.  An AI aircraft with a bad texture popping into your "reality bubble" can cause stutters (and CTDs).

The stuttering issues in P3D is very strange and difficult to understand and therefore difficult to solve.

I’ve just landed at Simwings Heathrow Pro and up to 2 miles out 30fps can be maintained. Then for a few seconds at 2 miles it drops to under 20 then reverts to 30 right up to the landing and rollout. There’s probably some files being loaded but what they are and why they’re being loaded so late only the developer knows.

I'll try that.  I ran a texture check on the AI aircraft and did find a few texture errors.

The thing is, everything as far as my aircraft and scenery is the same as it was when I was using P3Dv4.5, and I never had this stuttering problem.

Thanks.

How’d you check the textures? I’ve been dealing with a stutter myself.

There is a little program called FS Texture Checker that is available on the Alpha India group forums.

I also use DXTFixer which finds and fixes textures that are missing an alpha channel - apparently a missing alpha channel can cause problems in certain cases.

Well, I turned off EA and so far no more stuttering.  My cpu usage is down to an average of 50% instead of 70-100%.

It's odd that EA would hammer my cpu so much as I thought P3Dv5 was supposed to shift more work to the GPU.  My GPU usage, even with EA on, was always <50%.

Looks like LM has more work to do on the enhanced atmospherics.

After a long process of trial and error I found the cause of the severe stuttering I was getting on a 9700K 32GB 3090 GPU in VR.

Autogen and scenery draw distance should not be turned up higher than MEDIUM in VR otherwise there is a risk of periodic severe stutter.

The strange thing is that it is not dependent on any other setting. For example I could turn autogen densities to sparse and it would still produce the stutters. I tried all sorts of things such as reducing the number of cloud layers reducing the shadow quality reducing the frame rate or traffic etc etc.  The stutter was so bad at times I thought it must be I conflicting application in the background.

Just that one slider fixed it totally. I can turn everything up and it'll be smooth as but just not that one slider. You can turn that slider right up to max and it will work now and then but you can never be sure that you will suddenly be struck with this stuttering that's why it should be kept at medium.

I have been getting really annoying 'Long frame' stutters for a few weeks and tried everything to get rid of them without success. I was just about to completely wipe my computer and start again when I saw this thread and read your comment. I have always had Draw Distance set to Medium as I saw a thread a long time ago recommending this but I thought I will check it just in case. Somehow it was set to 'High', so I returned it to 'Medium' and guess what, stutters gone!! Thanks for the timely reminder (Not using VR by the way).
