September 9, 20214 yr The thing I like about X-Plane's lights is the size and how they're actually connected to an object whereas in MSFS they're just blurry oversized orbs floating everywhere. Like I said follow the link I've posted, there are plenty of pre-release photos not breaking NDA (because published by MSFT publicly) comparing pre-release, release, subsequent updates. It's all there already posted for you to read and see! Like in this one: Night lighting issues still present - The community solutions - post 1075 Edited September 9, 20214 yr by RXP

Extensively discussed indeed, here is a recent post of mine collating the most important posts about this specifically:https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/external-lights-only-render-on-right-eye-random-ghosting-image-on-right-eye-only/427755/6?u=cptlucky8
September 9, 20214 yr Having spend an absurd amount of time trying to keep my monitors calibrated for photography, I wonder if at least some of the different perceptions expressed here might not be due to differences in ambient lighting and screen texture. Since we're viewing the night lighting against a black background (or something very close to it), the contrast between black and the lights themselves may significantly impact how each of us perceives the night lighting in MSFS. Is your room completely dark or are there bright ambient lights illuminating the screen? Also, one of the few settings that I have found that profoundly impacts the nature of the point sources is BLOOM. If that's turned on, the light sources look diffuse and fuzzy, sort of like looking at the world through cataract-clouded lenses or in a light fog. Cheers. September 9, 20214 yr The lighting issues are being ignored. The XBox platform will continue to rule. As long as X boxers are happy that is all that will matter. The big goofy hangars, the overdone airport lighting, the blocky wierd high clouds, terrible sepia masks at high altitude, the lack of traffic, are all going to continue... I've given up on caring. I guess I'm just going to have to be happy with fly little planes close to the ground simulator. It will be interesting to see how P3D evolves now that it has DX12. It could be, but when you look at all the posts I've indicated in details, they are all synthetically analyzing the lighting techniques wrongness, from an implementation/coding standpoint, and how this is causing a perceptually wrong light bulb specifically.

September 10, 20214 yr I'm getting the floating runway lights with the latest update and this is even after trying the recommended fix of render scaling = 100 Although I do hear that fix works perfectly for many others. This is at grass strip in the Netherlands:

Hate to break it to you but there's no evolving of p3d, and if there is good luck trying to get them to fix all the bugs since way back when.

It is/was also my expressed opinion/belief that should Asobo obligingly acquiesce to yet another community driven change in the lighting, that there will almost certainly be a number of people who won't like that either. I have seen this cycle repeat so many times over the years that I won't even put forward my own lighting preferences because the whole subject is cyclically futile. I do idly wonder if there will finally come a day when Asobo makes a firm artistic/financial decision and then puts its foot down and sticks to it, because as I said, you really can't please everyone. This is the sum and total of what I had to say regarding the topic of this thread. You then replied that in your opinion my comment was disrespectful, because you associated the word "whine" with the behavior of children. I am sorry, but what you associate with what has nothing to do with me, and I take no responsibility for it, beyond noting for the record that it was not me that brought the word "children" into the discussion. 🤔 Your subsequent invitation for me to defend calling people children is and was subsequently rejected since I never did so. What I did do was reply philosophically to your remark about children, with my own feeling that many times adults are worse than children, and I stated why I felt like that, a remark I considered outside the context of the lighting issue. Your mileage may vary. Did I mention that it was you that brought children into the discussion? I am happy that I do not have to deal with you about serious things. I would really like to tell you what I think of your attitude. But I won't, because I know respect. Best A.
