USING PERSONAL TRAFFIC.BGL'S

Recommended Posts

If I were to copy my personal Traffic.bgl's from FS2004 to FSX, do I have to copy all the aircrafts that are being used in the BGL's to the FSX folder or can I somehow REFER to them in their present location in FS2004?Any help is appreciated.ThanksAbe

You could try to refer to them like thisEdit your C:documents and settingsApplication DataMicrosoftFSXfsx.cfg file to add the following line under [main], at the end of the SimObjectsPaths list:SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjectsAirplanesSimObjectPaths.1=SimObjectsRotorcraftSimObjectPaths.2=SimObjectsGroundVehiclesSimObjectPaths.3=SimObjectsBoatsSimObjectPaths.4=SimObjectsAnimalsSimObjectPaths.5=SimObjectsMiscSimObjectPaths.6=AircraftSimObjectPaths.7="location of AI aircraft"Regards, MichaelKDFWNot anti FS9, just pro FSX!

Thanks Michael,A followup question:Does SimObjectPaths.7="location of AI aircraft" have to be more specific than "F:FS2004AIRCRAFT"? I believe I also used regular aircraft also.Regards,Abe

I haven't tried this, only an idea since it will pull aircraft from the non default location, I would imagine that my suggestion would work also and yes Abe, you would probably need to use the exact location.I'd love to know if this works if anyone tries it.Regards, MichaelKDFWNot anti FS9, just pro FSX!

No, that's it.Also note that using traffic BGLs created for FS9 will most likely make the default FSX traffix dissapear. In the past, I had used a modded default GA BGL for FS9, so I just copied it over to and changed the entries to account for the default aircraft and airport changes in FSX. If you're interested in the file, you can find it at the bottom of the second post at http://www.projectai.com/discuss/index.php/topic,53566.0.htmIt uses default aircraft from FSX so you do not have to copy any aircraft over.

Hi Mike,My first thought was that the plane would need to be in the FSX folder somewhere. I didn't think it could be like 3rd party scenery, where we can define the path. If I cut and paste my AI Plane folder out I can sure try this quickly!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Michael......you're the man!!!You made me a very very happy man. Now I can see my 747's, 727's and my beloved TWA airplanes (flew for TWA for 25 years) ALL OVER the place - just like I designed my BGL in FS2004.Two words........................THANKS!!! and W O W !!!The only thing I need now is a program like TRAFFIC VIEW BOARD. I used to hitch a ride from one aircraft to another, and I used to manage to go practically around the world. FSX air traffic, I believe is limited to about 100 miles from your aircraft. One little question, when FSX loads up it brings up the fact, rightfully so, that there are duplicate aircrafts(of course) of both FS2004 and FSX. Does that create a problem of any kind?Again, thanks Michael, and the rest of you guys, I am going to try the other great ideas you mentioned.Abe

Hi All,This does work! However:You will get many messages about multiple objects having the same title on startup. When you go to the Select a Plane screen you will get the messages all over again AND all your FS04 planes will be listed. This means it takes forever for that screen to open. The good thing is that you can choose a FS04 plane from the list and it will load into FSX if it is FSX compatible.I am not sure what route to go now: have AI planes duplicated in FSX or point FSX to my aircraft folder in FS04.Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

I'm glad this worked, wish I had tried it before I physically moved all my custom AI over to FSX when I first loaded it up, LOLRegards, MichaelKDFWNot anti FS9, just pro FSX!

The other problem you will run into is that loading times will be increased as FSX goes through your whole old fs9 aircraft list, and will make many available but not working in your fsx menu... I tried this and went from about 1.5 minute load time to over 5 minutes (200 old fs9 planes will do that) and lots and lots of "repeated aircraft" warnings...the smartest thing to do is create a specific AI traffic folder and make that new adjustment into your fsx.cfg file (I haven't done that yet) as it will make it easier to find the airplanes you actually fly to modify and add paints etc, and will make it better organized to find your traffic files in the futurecheers!jonasps the other issue is with fs9 traffic in fsx, the planes will display as black versus grey (queen's english) or white when beyond range of textures (about 2nm)... this gets kind of annoying when flying into an airport and every airplane looks solid black from a distance

Jonas, thanks for the input. So far I am happy as a lark. The benefits outweigh the inconvenience. I did not experience any texture annoyance. The thing I hope for is for somebody to come up with a program like TRAFFIC VIEW BOARD to increase the viewing distance of the AI traffic to more than the 100 miles(roughly) limitation.I am, of course, open for suggestions and new ideas. And I do appreciate every bit of it.Abe

It may not have enough parking for TWA though, as St. Louis is no longer the big hub it once was. St. Louis still has the terminal space of a big hub, but a large portion of their terminals and parking are presently not being used...I made KSTL as of 2006-07, not KSTL of 10-15 years ago...Still, my scenery has considerably more parking spots than default FSX and should help you if you're running TWA AI aircraft.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

Thanks Rhett. Just downloaded your "fsx_kstl_v1.zip" file, will install it later. I have incorporated TWA AI traffic in a couple of my BGL's but I put them essentially in KLAX where I was based the last 10 years and in Europe where I used to fly to very often. Thanks again, Rhett.Abe

I use the Air Traffic Controller hack to follow comms and watch the radar sometimes, but it's just not the same.
