Because of this thread and some research, I went with this monitor and a new DP cable.  I feel it will be a good improvement over my 10 year old 23" Asus.

Watch out, the VRR range on that laptop is only 44-144hz. I have the ultrawide 38” version of that monitor and it has G-Sync module in it, so VRR is full range.

The minimum refresh rate is indeed 44hz  but the monitor has RADEON Low Frame Compensation, so Gsync should still kick in well below 44 fps.

There should be no issues down to well under 30 fps.  The VRR minimum for that model is stated as < 20 FPS.

Most new Freesync 2 monitors have LFC, it is really only an issue with older freesync monitors.

The fact you’re locked to 30 FPS tells me you do need the new PC. Each to their own I suppose, however there is a massive difference on a LG C1 between 30 FPS and 60fps.

This is what the xbox series x does with MSFS in 4k ."locked to 30 FPS" and gamers don't need a new game console .

The difference is only on paper and influences your imagination.

I have never known such a smooth simulator and that's exactly what I needed.

Apart from screen flicker, you’re right.

I can tell you, it’s certainly not imagination. The difference between 30 and 60 FPS is night and day. And actually the Xbox X does support VRR and does go as high as 60fps.

It allows my 2080ti to run everything at Ultra in both MSFS and the P word...   For sim racing it is ideal as my real car has a 50 inch front window... Pretty spot on.

To your point though 5120x2160 wasn't available when I was shopping I think it is now although I didn't notice the loss of vertical resolution I was so overwhelmed going from a 34 4096x2160 to the 49 5120x1440

Interesting last point. I went from a 27" 4k monitor to 5120x1440 and really did feel the loss of vertical resolution. That said, I wouldn't change my ultrawide for the world now. Shame Samsung has messed up the latest iteration of it (the Neo).

I'd love a 5120x2160 ultrawide in future.

The only thing I truly miss regarding the 27" 4k monitor (in addition to its FALD capability) is Gsync. In my experience, Freesync gets nowhere near Gsync's fluidity.

It's absurd to say the difference between 30 and 60 fps is down to the imagination.

If you can’t tell the difference between 30 and 60 Hz you should see a doctor 🙂

The only absurd thing here is you trying to convince people that 30 FPS is enough. Sorry to be so direct.

yeah. It’s all just imagination.

So bizarre that people keep spouting this 30fps nonsense.

If a person can't see the difference between these and extrapolate how much of an impact this would have on the simulator, well, I'm not sure what to say.

Si une personne ne peut pas voir la différence entre ceux-ci et extrapoler l'impact que cela aurait sur le simulateur, eh bien, je ne sais pas quoi dire.

We are talking about front of a screen with MSFS and not about 3 black dots that move under the microscope.Try to focus on the subject.

Lol 😄

[  ] had understood the message of the post

[X] Feels like he is totally right except he’s totally wrong

so let me recount this thread:

- 4K is not needed because textures are not in 4K

- 30 FPS is enough because it’s soooo fluid.

I‘ve seen a lot of nonsense in this forum. But sometimes you guys still surprise me.

To say that 30fps vs 60fps is night and day, keep this argument definitely for you

15 FPS is even more fluid. You should try it.
