If you run MSFS locked at 30fps w/ Vsync on...

  1. 1. If you run MSFS locked at 30fps w/ Vsync on, do you find it fluid and stutter-free now, post WU6?

    • Yes, I find it fluid and stutter-free to a high level and I'd rather have the greater graphic complexity and processing overhead that the lower frame lock affords.
    • I like chocolate or vanilla ice cream

There is a processing penalty the higher the FPS lock is set everyone should agree.  This poll is getting at if you find video animation fluid at 30fps and are happy to retain image complexity and detail in exchange for this lower frame rate than some aspire to.  If you DON'T run at 30fps locked by vsync in-sim, feel free to answer the 2nd option in the affirmative, or don't respond at all.

On my old i7-3770k I run at 30fps locked in sim and vsync on and it's smooth for me. No problems their.

But on my new system I run at 60fps locked with vsync on.

I can run at 60fps locked w/ vsync on, but only in certain situations.  If I jump in the 787-10 and fly out of FSDT's KORD for example, it will dip well under 60, and you know what that does to smooth stutter-free animation be it at 30 or 60 fps lock.  There are very many scenarios where I can't and to be frank the main reason I paid for 3080Ti was to stop the incessant need to change settings either before or during flights, and thankfully that is a thing of the past now no matter where I am and in any weather and conditions.  LOD 300, RS 120, all ultra, 8xSSAA, 16XAF.  Very delighted to never have to touch settings again, in fact probably time to try LOD 400.  I have some payware airports that are super hard on performance and so nice now to be able to use those fully maxed out.

I frame limit at either 36 or 48 FPS depending on my mood so this is not really relevant to me.  (30/60 FPS are only useful settings on a 60hz or 120hz monitor, mine is 144hz )

I have an Asus PG43UQ HD monitor with Gsync. I leave FPS locked at 30 with Vsync on and refresh rate @60hz. It's my optimum setting using Ultra everything in game. If I however use 144hz refresh with unlimited FPS i get stutters.

Nice to have a 3090.....  I am locked at 30 just as I was with FSX.  It is more than adequate with Ultra, LOD 200, and Render Scaling at 100 for a 4K 60hz monitor and 4K MSFS setting.  And I am not answering this poll.

I could def get away w/ 36 and my next screen will accomodate this, but then again native frame lock wouldn't work, correct?  I mean in-sim options for vsync.

I have a Nvidia card so I just set it in the nvidia options to use 36 or 48 for MSFS and 144hz for everything else.

So is this about bragging rites on specs and frame rates, or about reasonable flight simulation?

With 60 fps my card runs a lot hotter and there is no visual benefit at all.

So if i run 30 FPS locked with VSync i only have option one choose from?

Well, i do run 30 FPS locked with VSync on (144hz monitor set to 120Hz to equal TrackIR pull rate to prevent tiny TrackIR stutter when not on pull rate freq), ingame set to 20 FPS (120Hz at 20FPS with VSync on = 30 in reality).
I still have an occational stutter (on loading new scenery) so it's not entirely smooth, certainly not since SU5 where available RAM & VRAM is just not being used.
Same goes for the performance dip each time when looking around, it creates stutter. So no, i don't get a smooth performance when locked at 30 and VSync on (when not locked and VSync OFF the overall experience is even worse).

Noel is just taking this out of another topic.

Let me point out a few things.

Its not about running 60 FPS and its not about how many FPS you can get.

If your dont use TrackIR and simply move the view with mouse look or just use fixed views 30 FPS is fine.

If you Do use TrackIR then 30 FPS is not going to give smooth viewing you need 40 or 60.

Lastly let me just remind you all of the V-Sync setting in MSFS.

At 60Hz the setting for FPS work as they say.

But what they should say if V-Sync ON/OFF 30Fps IS NOT 30 FPS its 1/2 refreash rate 20 FPS = 1/3 refreash rate.

So if you have a 144hz screen you could set 1/3 (20FPS) and that gives you a locked FPS at 48.

120Hz at 1/3 as I use gives 40 FPS.

Wrong its 40 FPS.🙂

You want to use A) you native screen res B) The highest Hz possable. 60Hz minimum, 120Hz > far better. I use 240Hz apart from MSFS.

Saving FPS for headroom I agree with, but 30FPS and 30Hz on anything but fix views is a no no.
