DC-6 loses speed in cruise

Featured Replies

In an earlier post I said I had experienced the problem of the DC6 slowing down, I posted this on the PMDG DC6 forum, the reply I got was to switch the carb de-icers on when this condition appears, I set the weather up to replicate icing conditions, the aircraft started to slow I switched the carb de-icers on and the aircraft slowly started to accelerate.

The symptom of icing when cruising, is your manifold pressure will start dropping  because carb throat is being partially blocked by ice build up. When you see that, apply carb heat. The ice will start clearing, MP will start rising, and you will be back to normal power. This happens in any aircraft with a carb.

I've experienced the same thing, reduction of IAS while flying through clouds.  TAT was too high for airframe icing (18C), and power was constant so carbs were clear.  IAS returned to normal slowly after exiting the clouds.  I think it's some sort of bug with MSFS because I've seen reports of it happening with other aircraft as well.

Please explain how you do not own the DC6, but loose speed with her in clouds?

Can't follow ...

Where did I say “her”? I was insinuating  with other aircraft in general as I clearly said I don’t own the dc-6 (right at the beginning of my post), maybe it’s an issue with msfs and affects all aircraft and could be a cause of speed loss…I’ve explained myself, hopefully your all caught up now.
