September 24, 20214 yr So I have an i7 4970k 4.0Ghz, 16GB and a 1070. Flying GA I can lock at 30 and its pretty consistent in most conditions/locations. However my rig really struggles in the FBW A320 or CRJ particularly in dense locations on approach. I sometimes get a lot of stutter and the dreaded "you are about to CTD" blips in sound. I have fiddled with umpteen settings in the sim and outside, nothing really helped. Anyway to keep it short the other day I set the sim to locked 20FPS and what a difference. Ok its not 30FPS or higher but I'll be honest the more I fly the more I'm getting used and 20FPS in MSFS feels way higher than 20FPS in xPlane or P3D imo. One thing for sure is I know longer have the stutters and whilst FPS can be considered low its SMOOTH and CONSISTENT which is what I'm looking for. Nothing like 100 ft above the ground it st-st-stutters immersion killer. So now I move up to 30 FPS for GA and down to 20 FPS for the big irons which are heavier on performance. So yea if your like me stick it on 20FPS and give it a go. Edited September 24, 20214 yr by sidfadc Thomas Derbyshire
September 24, 20214 yr Just no. Debates, arguments, opinions on 60vs 30fps. But 20 is just far too low. It’s a no from me.

My point being its the nice sweet spot for me based on my rig in demanding aircraft. I would love 30 and have my machine hit 30 in all conditions but its just not possible unless I'm happy with stutters and inconsistent performance. Thomas Derbyshire

I find I can get 35-70+ FPS in almost all situations on high-end, with scenery cache and other settings on Ultra and LODs 200, v few stutters if any. I’d been having regular CTDs until I found I had a memory error on 2 of my memory sticks. Took them out and good as gold fingers x’d. I use Nv control panel for vsync and latency on ultra.

September 24, 20214 yr FWIW I flew locked at 24FPS both in P3D and FSX (for many, many years). This came after several generous discussions with my personal FS Oracle at Delphi Steve Waite. It served me well for a very long time. I have since upgraded my computer, but even now I lock FPS. In airliner and GA flying this works beautifully "for me". For aerobatics and fighters, there is a point of diminishing returns. There is great value in restricting FPS and allowing the computer to try and eliminate "long frames". The OP has found something that works for him, and is thoughtfully sharing his discovery with others who may be flying similar equipment- I find only opportunity to express gratitude. September 24, 20214 yr 10 years old i5 2500k 3.30GHz, 1060 6GB Card and 16gb ram......and on the verge of parting with 1500 pounds on a new computer!! My 10 year old pc runs fs2020 TBM930 pretty dam well providing I stay away from the big cities and the airliners....but I am getting sick of the stutters I must admit... especially on approach. I expect I will have a new pc very soon!! Regards Paul EGCC Regards Paul EGCC

I expect I will have a new pc very soon!! Regards Paul EGCC Yea same here I am due an upgrade but stock shortage of graphics cards plus my own cashflow issues are getting in the way. Like my OP flying GA like the TBM my rig is just fine, its when I start to push it in the FBW or CRJ in dense urban approaches it starts to creak a little. So 20FPS seems to give me pretty smooth, stutter free flying which I'm more than happy with. Thomas Derbyshire
September 24, 20214 yr My computer is not an aging computer. I had to replace the aging one because it wouldn't run MSFS2020. So it March of this year I bit the bullet and got one that would. I'm no computer geek but my specs seem similar to yours, The ad said it was a gaming computer so I bought. It's a Dell XPS8940 i7-10700 [email protected] GHz, 16GB RAM, 64 bit, Windows 10. nVidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti It was $1386.68 from Amazon. When I installed MSFS2020 the frame rate defaulted to 60 FPS, so I left it there, I have checked what I actually get several times and it just sets on 60 FPS no matter where I go. Like I say, I'm no computer whiz, but you didn't mention your graphics card so maybe it's that. It seems from what specs you give, being similar to mine, you should be getting the same as me. Maybe someone here that knows something about this type of thing, will jump in and help you. 20FPS is no joy. I had enough of that with FSX.
