September 26, 20214 yr Count me excited. The preview looks wonderful. I am looking forward to release - it can't come soon enough! The trees and the water on runways and the sky look wonderful.

September 26, 20214 yr Well, don’t think I’ve ever seen a thread disintegrate quite so dramatically as this one. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
September 26, 20214 yr Anyway, coming back to the topic: I think LR is really working hard to deliver on most of XP11’s shortcomings with this release and I am quite happy with what I saw. XP12 does not need to match MSFS’s visuals to compete, rather just improve the obvious lackluster elements such as clouds, trees and lightning, as that base coupled with quality freeware and payware will be enough to keep the platform going and, perhaps, growing. Just the fact that you have the developers come forward and share what they are working on is great and I would say LR is the pioneer there and Asobo is following that tradition as well. Compare that, for instance, with the cryptic development lifecycle of P3D and I can definitely see a world where XP12 is a strong second contender in the PC civilian flight simulation genre. September 26, 20214 yr Well, it looks like not everyone is enjoying the new content revealed for XP12: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/x-plane-12-announced/457334

It will solidify it´s lead in all other aspects, though 🙂 There is really no reason to lower expectations after this presentation. The auto-gen, trees, seasons, animations, FMOD sounds, are all stuff that already look and sound way better than the competition (which I have to compare), with a much better SDK as well. Lighting and Clouds begs for some tests on my HDR monitor to be judged with maximum quality. The world scenery is probably not even remotely close to what should be expected, it is still WIP, still hoping for some more shaders for terrain but Ben also said they are re-cutting the global scenery now while they are letting the artists "do what ever they want", still remains to be seen, the current terrain is probably no what Xplane12 will look. The disappointing part was merely the fact we are yet to see a full Xplane12 build in action, you can clearly see old clouds and old lighting mixing in many of those shots, as well old water and old trees, I think this kind of means Xplane12 is not coming in 2021, best case is a closed beta, but that's ok. I am happy they are taking a more conservative evolutionary step. Imagine Laminar Research replace XP11 UI with a clunky one from MSFS just to be "next gen". Like the saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" . So we're at "We didn't WANT them to change anything!" already? Looks like Greazers assessment is right, XP11.60b. Conservative approach, excuse my amusement 😄 Reeeeeally looking forward to those videos now... Edit: So we're getting another "canvas", with which artists "can do what they want", right? Heh. September 26, 20214 yr Moderator Back on topic please. I had to remove several pages of political rants that had nothing to do with XP12 and the person in question is taking some time off from the forum.

I take it as a compliment to X-Plane and it´s new iteration that the MSFS fans spend a lot of time and effort in our forums to "belittle" X-Plane. Not much different from what I and others did a few months ago in the MSFS forums 😉 Now I don´t do that anymore, because with the new prospects of X-Plane´s future...I simply do not care about MSFS anymore. There will be a majority of users flying MSFS, because the majority of users is aviation layman just looking for a great time. That is fine, and more power to them. A lot of people DO get the difference, though - and the more the likes of you and greazer howl here, the more we know that we are on the right horse. Cheers, Jan

September 26, 20214 yr What I wonder, in the preview about trees, they really look great, but in other shots they just look like texture improved billboard trees. Despite that, it's pretty much what I expected. Visually polished XP11. Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved

Cheers, Jan You seem to frequent the official MSFS forums quite often for someone who doesn't care anymore. Also I wonder why you bring it up all the time? 😉 This ad hominem you keep repeating which basically translates to calling all MSFS users clueless is growing old and actually has never been a good argument. Especially as long as you keep accusing others of "belittling" your preferred toy. Laminar Research customer -- Asobo/MS customer -- not an X-Aviation customer - or am I? 😉

I believe you are more interested in going after a certain few , I would only know if one frequents a forum either by hovering over the nickname and if that moment it says "Msfs forum" or if one posts stuff in that forum 😁 Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
September 26, 20214 yr Commercial Member I guess the inevitable has happened. The usual suspects have to scream how bad XP12 looks. At least they're in the minority. Makes me feel good about the choices I made.

Yep, in one of the videos I noticed the improved 3D trees and in the background the old billboard trees that glow and self-shadow.
