Moving MSFS 2020 to a new drive

Featured Replies

I used the MOVE option to transfer the MSFS files from the C drive to a backup E drive, now after reinstalling Windows the reinstalled xbox app cant find the backed up data on the drive with the files on it!  Its jusr wants to reinstall from fresh.  Is this fixable?

What you can try, is to go to the E drive and move the "MSFS Content" to a folder of your choice... Then when reinstalling MSFS, you tell the installer where the "Content" is located.

First create a new folder on your E drive and call it MSFS

1. On the E drive, find the WpSystem folder and keep opening it up, until you find the LocalCache folder

2. In the LocalCache folder, find the Packages folder

3. Drag this Packages folder into your new MSFS folder

When reinstalling MSFS, when it shows the default Content location at the bottom of the screen, change it to:

E:\MSFS\Packages and hit Enter

At that point, the installer should pick up your saved Content.
