AI TRAFFIC ON MSFS!

I have flown a $20 Million + Full motion sim at an Airline Training Center twice, which I am willing to bet, 99.9% of the members of this forum have never done, and guess what  NO AI!!! The Pilots that do their 6 month check rides on these sims, must be totally unqualified to fly with the airlines, due to the fact that they are using a sim that has no AI..... What a load of bull.

I've also flown many times in LevelD simulators of a national airline trainer center more than 20 years ago, and there was AI traffic back then. Do you think they have removed the feature recently, or did you fly these simulators a longer time ago?

Here is from one of my personal videos (spare me the quality, it was Hi8 footage back then 🙂 )

1st shot you see traffic lights, 2nd shot you see it closer and the red light to the right of the PFD is AP/DISCO because of the TCAS and pilot taking control!

Around 12 years ago, and I was flying traffic patterns in KATL in a 767-400 ER, and saw zero AI Traffic.

I did the 757 systems in Las Vegas and no traffic...   OT but there was also a PRIVATE full motion 707 simulator there a certain individual had purchased for their private 707.  They said it was a Middle Eastern customer but wouldn't say anymore...

With time, MSFS may mature into what we would describe as a SIMULATOR but I wouldn't hold your breath. Over a year since the release and they still haven't fixed the most basic bugs (as well as intoducing new ones with every "update").

Don't get me wrong - I love playing in MSFS (it's an eye-candy fest) - but for serious simming, I'd rather be elsewhere ... XP11, P3D or DCS (for the combat stuff).

Do you get all serious with the other sims, you know P3D/XP which have been out for decades now?  That's good especially for P3D as you're never supposed to be entertained in P3D it's against their EULA 🤣

The stuff you are ascribing to a SIMULATOR is easy peasy compared to what MS/A has developed already, out to the public and grand total of 13.5 months ago now.  Mark these words now:  the other bits are coming, as they are nothing new, the code is there for all to see and work with, absolutely zero innovation required.  And quite frankly there is a WHOLE LOT already in the sim--oft ignored in these discussions.  Plus, people with your bent discount the incredible value of atmosphere, lighting, detail and accuracy by putting the dismissive label on this as 'eye-candy'.  Next time you're getting all serious in the other games, oh sorry sims, be sure to turn off the outside view so you can focus seriously on the avionics exclusively 😆

So I sit here day after day and read the same stuff over and over again about AI and atc and then I fire up the sim and load up at a gate with planes around me. Atc and myself going through the motions. Last night I flew from Tokyo to Incheon and I had to wait for a plane landing, which got off the runway and I went on my way. Traffic along the way and atc guiding me through my altitude changes. As I approached for landing I was told I’m number 1 and to watch traffic landing on the runway next to me. As I landed and exited the runway I was told to hold short for another landing aircraft. I finally pulled into the gate and AI and atc worked flawlessly for me. This has been my experience the majority of the times. Are they perfect, no but they are better than what you get in the other games. X-plane atc is literally useless and the AI relies heavily on 3rd party addons, same as p3d which atc is almost as horrible as x-planes, putting me on 100 mile finals… yeah sure, I’d like to see real airlines and planes flying around but as a real pilot, I get the immersion feel a lot more from this sim than what others consider to be superior.

Actually I'm not sure this is what I've heard during the FSExpo presentation, more specifically that: "you can perfectly be fine if you find that training is entertaining for you".

They said more interesting things during their presentation about the direction they are going in the future...

They must be panicking now and changing their tune, because it is obvious that anyone flying P3D, and then trying MSFS, is never going back to P3D. P3D feels like a 20 year old sim now. I tried going back to P3D for a few weeks while my new PC was getting repaired, and I couldn't wait until I got it back and could continue flying MSFS.

Quite frankly Jean-Luc, I am delighted to be rid of Prepar3D once and for all time.  It was an overpriced and expensive beta that evolved at a snail's pace by a company with over $50B in assets in 2020.  I gave them $600 over the years too, which is in part why I remain completely uninspired by P3D going forward.  I could care less about the direction they are going in the future.  And when push comes to shove, when you look at what you can learn now, today, in MSFS as an aspiring pilot, over what desktop P3D offers to aspiring pilots, the gap is not that large and narrowing ultra fast.  Commercial use is a different story of course.

Fixing P3D now is like putting lipstick on a pig.. It's still a pig.

Looking to the left and right of my plane and discovering empty gateways is like landing on a runway without lights.

The same for me when landing at most GA airports, including freeware addon airports, and seeing all the hangars closed.  It is a characteristic of the scenery objects available.

I am in contact with some guys from ASOBO and with Jörg, but so farthe focus was more on getting the new introduced bugs fixed. I have made some suggestions to Jörg and waitin now for feedback.

I have a question, not sure if you can answer or not, but I'll still ask anyway. On multiple occasions during Q&A's I sensed as if Asobo is extremely careful with their approach to AI and overall word selection and speed in which they are addressing what we need. I also have a feeling they are uneasy about opening up AI as they are still very much into the platform optimization and they know that opening up AI could derail their efforts to stabilize the platform. It seems that they are in full swing now with CTD monitoring and all that stuff related to it.
Did they ever say anything of sorts directly to you?

We have not talked about timelines or pirority lists. Currently we are in the process of understanding the current situation and how stuff is working together in the new Sim, some stuff we have learned over the years with FSX/P3D are no different (sometimes by mistake....). During the tests we found some stuff that causes issues when chaning it to the best pratice rules we had, but is now causing problems in MSFS. The AI Team (and the airport team) have not worked based on the best practice rules so far.....

Oh, if you are in contact with the guys of Asobo, please, ask them to let msfs inject ai model like before SU4 update.

I remember I could have 175 ai planes on Charles de Gaulle Airport.

It seems steam version works better into that area.

Funny comment seeing as this thread is about Ai and the Ai in P3D blows msfs out of the water. When you take this hobby to the next level such as this https://simfest.co.uk/ as many simmers around the world have, the same can be said about flying on a dinky little single monitor. Its all about perspective. Enjoy msfs and stop the P3D bashing as It's completey unnecessary.

Dont forget to support the worldflight crews raising money for some great charities. It starts again next month
