Billed $54.81 for MSFS Standard in July. I never ordered it

Featured Replies

Greetings all,

In July, I will billed $54.81 for something called:

Microsoft Flight Simulator - 204 FlightSim

Credits:Microsoft Flight Simulator

Is there a yearly charge for MSFS?  it was set as an "automatic payment".

I purchased MSFS 2020 Premium Deluxe edition in August of 2020.  I  might have missed something for forgot about a recurrent charge.  This was about the time the X-Box version came out.  I don't have X-box.

Also, I can't update MSFS 2020 through the Microsoft Store.  The Store is showing me that I'm up-to-date on all products.

Thanks for your help!

Did you buy something from the marketplace?

When you buy something in the in-sim marketplace it's listed as 'Flightsim credits' on the receipt.

Hi Rich,

Your purchase of MSF2020 should not have recurring charges. Only via X Box Game pass, and you clearly purchased outright. Here is a FAQ https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015885580-All-versions-Refund-Cancellations-

See second item regarding double charging etc. Check you have not purchased anything on Marketplace as well.

Have you downloaded the xBox app and the Microsoft app and signed in to both?  Not talking about the Microsoft Store web site.  Talking about the Microsoft Store app,  Yes, there is one and it appears you now need it to update.

I know.  What in the world?  Right.  Many of us got caught up in total frustration with Sim Update 5 (SU5) and the following hotfixes.  Look back through MSFS topics here on Avsim and you will find the history and some good posts about what to do to find success.

Doah!!!! Now that you mentioned the Marketplace, it comes to mind.  It's the Aerosoft CRJ...

The charge was showing up on the Microsoft Store as an X-Box purchase.  When you mentioned the Marketplace, that triggered my memory about the Aerosoft purchase.  That make sense now.

Break...Break...

This whole mess started when I tried to start my MSFS 2020.  It said I needed to do an update before it would start.  However, it is it not updating and the update screen is not showing like usually does. Normally, if an update is required the Microsoft Store will open with the update screen.  Is there something with my installation?

Sorry to be pain...

Thanks!

That happened to a lot of us... as stated above, the workaround is to install the XBox app in the store and run it.

Somehow that makes the MSFS update appear..

Why the MS Store cannot specify which item you purchased is a major shortcoming, as far as I am concerned.

(@MS are you listening?..)

Any on-line site tells you the specific item you bought, but MS prefers to tell you only the price.

Because you're technically not buying the item directly, you're buying credits that are automatically redeemed for the product. That's why the receipt says 'Flight Sim credits'.

I'm guessing that's to get around refund requests or something.

That is a pretty lame excuse, don't you think? 😉

It actually creates issues. FSDT were good enough to generously give me a free non marketplace copy of a product I bought on the marketplace due to marketplace/SU5 issues which were entirely MS fault - but providing proof of purchase is tricky.   Especially if you have purchased a few products that sell at the same price point over the same period.

Thanks fppilot!

I recall seeing a lot of MSFS traffic on Avsim about update issues.  I have not had to time get any sim, much less MSFS 2020 for about a month. Days are getting shorter, house projects are getting completed, so it's time to turn to the simulator again.

I have not downloaded the xBox app. I have the Microsoft Store app, and that's the one that usually shows were an update is required.

I just downloaded xBox app.  Sure enough, it's downloading the update.

HEY ASOBO!!!!  When your program says it needs an update, take to the right app! Don't take it to the Microsoft Store.  Take it to the xBox app!!!  Hello, McFly!!!

Thanks fppilot, and everyone else!

Happy Saturday!!

" In July, I will billed $54.81 for something called...."

Something is not right if you are going to have to pay this in July.

I hope you paid by Paypal (it's much safer than paying by credit card).

There is a list of 'automatic payment' sellers in your account on the Paypal website that you have authorized.

You can turn any of those to ON or OFF. When OFF that seller cannot take anything from your Paypal account until you go back and turn that seller ON again.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
