Following the Tea-Horse Road - Sichuan Trifecta

Following the Tea-Horse Road - Sichuan Trifecta

This is a follow-on from our Shagri-La flight from a few weeks ago. We will follow the Tea-Horse Road route connecting Tibet with Sichuan.   The “Trifecta” refers to the fact that we will visit the three highest commercial airports in the world. Departing from Qamdo Bangda (2nd - 14,229 ft) we proceed to  Daocheng Yading (1st - 14,472 ft), then to Kangding (3rd – 14,042 ft).  Remember to bring your oxygen.  Leaving Kangding there is a little bit of climbing required and then the route is all downhill as we descend into the Sichuan Basin and land at the historic WW2 airfield of Wujin (ZUXJ) southwest of Chengdu.  Turning to the east we cross the basin to our final destination of Chongqing.   I recommend selecting the ILS02R approach with SHC transition as shown in the flightplan as it will afford excellent views of the Yangtze river and the city on our approach and landing.

Once again, I plan to fly the PMDG DC-6A in Steve Dra’s USAF Day-Glo livery. High terrain will require significant climbs, high cruise levels (think 2nd stage superchargers) and situational awareness. The TBM will also be a good choice for this route.

Recommend Departure time of 3:40PM local.   We plan to arrive at Chongqing as the sun sets around ~6:40

Recommended Additional Freeware

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport-ZUCK       (note: the default airport does not have taxiways or ramp)

Hi all . I was thinking of running a DC-6B in a new livery I have for this . However, I seem to remember having an issue with multiplayer visualisation of liveries between the two variants. The others seem to be planning to run the "A" model so would this be your recommendation ?

Dont worry . I`ll fly a DC-6A        Here
