As crude as the original ones looked they were still challenging to fly and could keep me at the computer all day if I let them.

I think FS5 was my first.

It’s crazy to think how awesome it seemed back then.  I wonder what FS2045 will look like?

I remember this very well back in 1983 when I got my first PC with a black and green monitor, and installed FS and knew about Meigs for the first time.

Those FS98 graphics were amazing in 1998 compared to the early 80/90s titles we've grown up with.

We've had 1998 eyes back then🤣

The Commie64 package looks like the Apple package.  I could fly the Apple //e version of FS2 all day.

When you're a 12 year old kid you have some time, especially in the summer.  When I wasn't playing baseball, I was messing around with FS-II.

FS5 was one of my first purchases with my earnings from my first job as a baseball umpire.  Where else could a 15 year old kid get paid $12-$15 to get yelled at by adults for a couple hours lol.

I remember flying FSII on my C64.  I would fly real-time between JFK and Ohare.  They had scenery just in a portion of New York and a portion of Illinois and I would dead reckon between the two zones.  Once I arrived in Illinois it would be a scramble to figure out where I was - usually I would find Lake Michigan and work my way home from there.

LOVED IT at the time!  MSFS2020 is a dream come true.

Oh yes, we had some high school kids as umpires.  I once got beaned (well, not beaned, hit in the hand) by a pitch.  The umpire told me I couldn't go to first base because, "...the hand was considered part of the bat".

I still wonder about that to this day, almost 40 years later.

I first saw MS Flight Sim displayed on a Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computer. I read an article about the sim in Rainbow Magazine. I wanted to make the purchase, but the sim back then required 32K system RAM, and my computer only had 16K. (That's not 32 megs or 32 gigs. That's 32K: 32,768 bytes.

Brings back wonderful memories....I had played “Jet Fighter II” in college on my roomate's PC in college, but while on my honeymoon with my wife circa 1997 (ATA L-1011 to Las Vegas!) I spotted the promo boxes for FS98 at the software store at Fashion Show Mall...for the rest of our honeymoon (crazy as it was) I could think of nothing but getting a PC and FS98 so I could fly that 737-400 on the back cover (not even a 737-800...wow, L-1011 on the honeymoon, 737-400 on FS98...time goes very fast doesn’t it!?!).

This was followed by many ridiculous upgrades and dragging her on long trips to distant malls for new versions etc. until the same patient wife is still unimpressed by MSFS2020 with helpful tips like “Hmmm...those clouds still look fake?” 🙂

A fine hobby...I love it (and her!) still.

That one is a bit of a myth, the hands are not part of the bat and if a pitched ball hits a batter on the hands they should be awarded first base unless they were swinging at the ball.
