A Fun Approach in Bolivia

Recommended Posts

If you're looking for a little challenge and some nice hidden scenery, I recommend this approach into Tarija, Bolivia.  Tarija is nestled down in a beautiful valley surrounded by a number of mountain ranges - the airport (SLTJ) is situated at 6100' and has a single instrument approach procedure: the VOR C Rwy 13 approach:

SLTJ-(2)

SLTJ-(3)

SLTJ-(4)

SLTJ-(7)

😱😱

My best friend is from there, and she never told me about that. I need to talk with her 😛

Jokes aside, what a beautiful scenery. I'll give it a try. It's so close to the Argentina border.

Neat place, I'll have to fly it. I've done a lot flying in Colombia but don't usually go to Bolivia.

Are you using the Bijan seasons vegetation?  N Hemisphere fall colors don't seem right for that southern hemisphere location. (?)

Yep -that's Bijan's.  I thought the same thing you did - the colors seemed out of place for Spring.

Bijan and I had a few exchanges about this in one thread and he said that's the way that area of South America is.  He then posted a climate/vegetation map that shows the demarcation areas, stating that the northern areas of the SA continent and the southern areas don't all change at the same time in the season.  He also said that some areas in SA don't change much at all.

For all of you that are going to try this - the IAF for that approach requires a 17,000 ft. intercept.  The final turn intercepts the VOR radial at 7,300 ft.
