Positive SP1 Comments

Recommended Posts

No doubt that SP1 is going to be the most significant patch for MSFS to date. Some beta testers already leaked through the grapevine that SP1 will makes us very happy. I'll reserve my enthousiasm until I can see SP1 in action, but I am certainly very much look forward to it.Pat

I can hardly believe this blog...:"The machine specs are: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (a huge leap ahead of the dual Athlons in my other two machines), 2 gigs of ram and a GeForce 7900 (a bit faster than the 6800 and ATI x1600 in my other machines). I was shocked to turn all of the settings up completely (including autogen) and find myself getting 15 FPS solid. And this is on FSX retail."I got a Core 2 DUO too, with 2 gigs of ram and a 8800GTX. That's a BETTER system than the blogger. But when I put all settings completely up I realy don't get 15 fps solid.

I get a lot of fps using my core2duo X6800 (moderately oc to 3.3GHz) with a BFG 8800GTX (not oc) and 4GB Corsair memory. With everything maxed out (incl all AI traffic (MyTrafficX)) I get 30-40 fps flying over farmlands mixed with small villages and towns, and about 10 fps flying over a major city airport.Ulf B :-)

I get more than this now in most places, exception being New York where I get between 14-18 FPS. Here's some examples. Number of trees per cell 4500 and buildings 3000 per cell. (Note I normally use 600 and 800 respectively for these settings. I just wanted to see what effect it would be set back to default. Surprisingly not that bad!!

Tom, Nice pictures. I tried to e-mail you but your profile was empty. I am wondering what speed you are running your E6700. I am trying to decide between the E6600 and 6700 in building my new system. I have read that the 6700 does not have as much overclocking ability as the 6600. What is your experience. Also I read that FSX does not respond that well to SLI... compared to one card. What is your opinion of Crossfire and FSX? I'm trying to decide if it is worth the extra $200 for the 6700. Most of the posts don't think so. But I'd like the opinion of some one using one. Please send me your whole configuration.Also... I notice that the clouds are scattered to broken in your great pix. What happens in the same scenarios when you customize your weather or run heavy clouds in one of the presets?Tom I'm about a senior citizen who is a pastor. I hold an ATP,CFI-I-MEL and quite a few hours. But I don't know much about computers and am trying to catch up. This is the only flying I can afford right now, so I need to create the best system I can muster. I've spent hours and hours reading on the hardware forums... getting ready to do a build so I can have FSX at more than a slide show. I'm embarrassed to tell you how slow my machine is. But my one at church is a P4-D running at 2.4 or something like that... and FSX is NOT good there. Reading the threads on the beta testing rumors in regard to SP-1... there may be some hope in the spring air ;^)I enjoyed you P-51 pix. But I couldn't find an e-mail address there, so forgive the long post, and the rest of you who may have waded through this. Tom you are welcome to e-mail me at scbrown@mw.net Thanks in advance, God bless and have a nice Easter,Steve

I want to see what his fps is in KJFK. It really svcks for me as I live in Long Island and I want to fly out from KFRG which is less than 15 miles from KJFK.

My E6700 is not Overclocked. it runs at 2.67ghz.Crossfire mode doesn't help, nor hurt FSX performance on my system. It does allow me to use it's Super-aliasing mode which allows up to 14x Anti-Aliasing, with only a minimal loss of performance. About 1-2 FPS on my system. I find though it really isn't necessary though, and run at 4X AA with temperal AA checked. In your case, if you are not familiar with overclocking, and don't have someone that can do it for you, maybe you should go with the E6700. You can really mess up your system by overclocking if you do it wrong, anywhere from not being able to boot, and have to reset your bios, to actual damage to system components, and in most cases any damage caused will void your warranty. For me, I normally don't OC because it will reduce the lifespan of your system components, admittedly though the Core 2 Duo's does have a larger cushion than previous CPU's.

Thanks

>Did you turn on Light Bloom and Ground Object Shadow as>well? No Light bloom is off, that definitely would cut my frames in half, I venture to say, that poster in the blog didn't have this set either!! and I normally don't fly with Ground object shadows, but I'm going to go back and test with it set. EDIT: I just tested the same scene in KATL with shadows, and got interesting results. With Ground and Aircraft shadows I averaged 16.5FPS (Pretty much the expected loss in frames)With Ground shadows only I gained back a little over 1 fps at 17.8 fps avg. With Aircraft shadows only I only loss .6 fps from my first post at 23.9fps.Seems like Ground shadows is a big Frame killer!!

Thanks

Thanks much Tom... No I have a really sharp young builder doing that for me. He's been building them for himself and others for a number of years and overclocks them all. Take care, Steve

. . and I'm running a 6600, Steve. It was my first shot at overclocking, done with the ATI oc tool, and has been quite a success. She's been running at 3.0 gig since Christmas, and I will probably take her up a coupla more notches in the next few weeks. FSX is locked at 25fps and mostly runs 20 - 25 anywhere. I have some shots demmo'ing quality, but I have to reduce from 1680 x 1050 and I'm still getting an oversized picture. later!Regards,http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/169502.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/169503.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/169504.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/169505.jpg
