I was looking at my IFR High Altitude charts for the northeast (which also shows Canadian airspace. It gives you the altitude restrictions for the US and Canada.My question is this: Since Canada doesn't follow the RVSM, how do you file the cruising altitude if you are going through or terminating in Canada?For example, let's say that I'm going from Boston to Minneapolis, some paths take you through Toronto FIR. You file 340, but Canada doesn't recognize that, so do you file FL340 and FL350 or do you stick with FL340? Do you then fly at FL340 and when you reach Canadian airspace, do you climb or descend to the appropriate altitude?Thanks.

canada is rvsm i think. i've flown over canada (southern ontario) at even altitudes west bound all the time.

Canada should be RVSM. The North America ICAO region which includes Canada, Mexico and the US went RVSM in Jan 2005.
