November 1, 20214 yr In the real world of flying can you deny a DP or a STAR from ATC and ask for vectors instead? or is this just a nice little ‘gimmick’ used on VATSIM to help a newbie out? im not talking iron flying, I’m talking, TBM930, KA350, etc. Ciao!
November 1, 20214 yr Usually the ability to fly the SID and STAR is based on the aircraft's capabilities. So a old 737-200 with no advanced avionics, and that relies only on VOR and NDB navigation would not be able to comply with modern SID/STAR's. They can request vectors. In practice, I doubt there are many modern aircraft that don't have modern avioncs and GPS installed so I suspect this does not come up very often. I should also add that SIDS and STARS are designed to reduce controller and pilot workload and keep spacing organized. Its certainly not a gimmick in the real world and very much needed in order to allow for the volumes of traffic that are seen at many major airports. If anything Vatsim traffic volumes would allow for vectors only without much impact outside of a few major events. Edited November 1, 20214 yr by MarkW Mark CYYZ
November 1, 20214 yr Author I meant the gimmick as in opting out on VATSIM, just to help a newbie, not in the real world. Ciao!
