November 4, 20214 yr Author I have always thought the twist and turn FMS double knob was was a poor design for input while flying an airplane. It is OK if you have a copilot that understands all the nitty gritty details. I thought Garmin had finally realized that when the GTN came out. The GTN750 spoiled me forever more. Oh well, the NXi has a ton of nice features and we are fortunate to have a freeware team working day and night to make it available for our flight sim. I have been looking for some tutorials to learn the new features. I think it might be a little too early with all the work yet to be done by the team. The updates are coming at at faster rate than ever before. More users, more glitches and holes will be found. We have to be patient. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
November 4, 20214 yr Author Changing horses, what is the default choice of charts and navdata for MSFS? I just checked the price of Navigraph and it is a bit pricey although very useful with up to date Jeppesen data. Maybe once I learn more and can actually fly the CJ4 and A320 I might want their service. But, while I am working my way through the updates and tutorials, I am going to wait. Just wondering how out of date the Asobo navdata and world chart data is. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
November 4, 20214 yr There's no charts unless you have Navigraph. I currently use their subscription for charts and FMS data. I think if I flew more outside of the US I'd renew but I'll be cancelling mine come February. If you do like charts in cockpit they work in the CJ4, G3000-based aircraft, G1000 NXi and PMS GTN 750 (I think with premium purchase). They also work as a standalone app from Navigraph. edit: Oh, maybe no charts in NXi currently. With it I get all the USA/Canada/Caribbean charts I want for free with Fltplan.com's fltplan.go app coupled with their PC applet that connects it all via your home network. November 4, 20214 yr Hi Ray, If you have a second monitor and are a member of VATSIM, try out the Chartfox utility. I use it all the time for information. I don't think it runs through the G1000 though. No navigation database though, just charts. Cheers...Kenny. Edited November 4, 20214 yr by kenny584 Update to original reply.

November 4, 20214 yr If you look at Ray's original post and screenshot, he is using the NEAREST softkey in the PFD. This opens a window giving information about the nearest airport. It does not allow you to select it as a DIRECT TO. One has to press the DIRECT TO button in the side bezel to enter a destination. See the bottom of page 34 and page 40 in the Garmin manual. Cheers...Ken.

In the real unit, highlighting a waypoint in any window, followed by DTO-ENT-ENT would work. p 175: Selecting a nearby airport as a direct-to destination: 1) Select the Nearest Softkey on the PFD; or turn the FMS Knob to display the Nearest Airports Page and press the FMS Knob. 2) Select the desired airport (the nearest one is already selected). 3) Press the Direct-to Key. 4) Press the ENT Key. The cursor is now displayed on ‘Activate?’. 5) Press the ENT Key again to activate the direct-to. I am sure that WT will include this functionality in one of their upcoming releases. November 4, 20214 yr My apologies Bert and Ryan. I was refering to the unit in the sim and how it relates to the relevant pages in the manual, not the real world unit. Regards...Kenny
