Ahhh yeah I just realised mines a 9900KS, so I think it’s designed for 5ghz. Didn’t realise alias the K wasn’t.

Yeah. At 1.4v Vcore @ 5GHz on all cores my temps in Cinebench or any other CPU benchmark hit the 100c threshold despite a NOCTUA NH-D15S cooling it.  Again. 4.7 @ 1.25 is my safe space. Which is fine. 300, 400 MHz difference is negligible at best anyway.

With 11900k ,no reason for any manual overlock. Just enable intel adaptive boost + Asus Multicore Enhancement and you are ready to go. I have 87SP and i could reach 5.1ghz at  all cores on MSFS

While 12900k is a performance beast i am still confused with ddr5+motherboards situation. Most benchmarks and reviews suggest strongly to don't upgrade now on ddr5 ram while all z690 high-end motherboards cant use ddr4...

Chaotic but i guess its normal ( new tech/gen )

Yeah its just a transition period.  It'll shake out over the next couple of months.

By then we should have a better DDR5 situation.

Asus have made their canned overclocks pretty good now although even so, its a good idea to make sure they aren't overvolting for your particular chip.

Good God never more truer words have been said. They may have gotten good with Intel but them numbers they put out for AMD PBO ... hmm .. i don't think so.

Still working on manual profile to see how far I can go with my Silent Chiller.

What do you use Rob?

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

But from what I've heard the 12900K might make a good overclocker also, just ignore the 8Ghz claims.

Cheers, Rob.

Iam very impressed buy your work Rob.

Do you run SMT disabled and what brand of your 3090?

I run my 5950x and Galax 3090 on custom water cooling, have some crapy B-die without heatspreaders run them 3200mhz C16.

No critic but i suspect that your super mems is to much for the cpu memcontroller you ar 600 points off eatleast on the cpu score.

my score with default auto settings no SMT and no OC on the GPU TimeSpy score 20.047 , cpuscore 15.530 , gpu 21.132

Cheers Hasse

Rob is the most thorough and knowledgeable person to frequent these forums over the years. Whenever he gives his 2 cents on tech, I pay attention 👍🏻

Hey Hasse,

This is baseline from which I have to work (hopefully up) ... the only EFI changes was setting "DOCP Standard" per image to pickup the RAM profile.  So yes SMT is enabled.  Per the core VID value (1.5v) which seems very high (I'm guessing "Auto" is very much thermal probe based?), I'm hoping I've got some good headroom to improve ... it's been a long time since I worked on AMD CPUs so lots of trail and error to come.

The 3090 is EVGA FTW3 Ultra ... all default air no chiller and no Precision X1 installed yet.

Cheers, Rob.

in timespy its better with smt off with 5950x, think you go + 16k cpu score with your mems at 3600

cheers hasse

One cool one thing about Precision X1 is it’s auto-check and update for card firmware.

Yep you have a ways to go .. im only 40 points behind your timespy score with a 5900x/6800xt. If you plan to extract more performance from the CPU i would presume you will eventually familiarize yourself with PBO2 Curve optimizer and TDC,EDC and PPT settings.

Or of course you can leave it stock its a decent chip as it is.

Here's a little look at how the 12900K performs vs the 10900K in MSFS at 1080p and over ocean (non-complex scenery). I'm not sure how useful the test is, because both CPUs are chilling at 25% and the GPUs around 85%. Still the 12900K pulls ahead by 10-20 fps.

I would love for someone to test over complex scenery.

Interesting how Alder Lake respond to games that use mostly single core performance.

Yikes, 100 C??  Sounds like a great selling point for my Silent Chiller ... any takers? 🙂

Cheers, Rob.

Yep. It runs seriously hot. I've seen up to 350 W usage in JayzTwoCents videos.

I think a 280mm AIO is the bare minimum, and a 360mm AIO is recommended with this chip.

My GPU pulls already 400W+, and if I would put a 12900K in there I would have to rethink the whole cooling solution for the case.

I have great temps with 11900k (adaptive boost + multicore enhancement enabled) on MSFS. Average temp while playing 40-55c. Sometimes on loading when all cores are working you could reach 75c( max) for just 1sec.  So i guess its going to be the same with 12900k.
