Even the ones I have no intention of eating, but appreciate the fact they even exist!

Yes, I've looked at that ad several times. Its just I'm not sure it would taste anything like it does fresh in the store. Especially after you look at the instructions they have for heating it back up!

Yep! But, nothing like having a pastrami sandwich sliced and built on the spot!

It has been fun reading everyone's recollections of New York.

My first trip to NYC was as a child, maybe 12 years old. My Dad was a pilot for TWA so we flew for free, and while most trips were from the Bay Area to Seattle to schlepp my brother and I off to Grandma's house in Gig Harbor, this one time he decided NYC was the place. I vividly remember two things: the Empire State building (this would have been 1966 or thereabouts) being THE place to see the city laid out below you, and being accosted by a man without legs who got about on a "movers pallet" propelled by his hands. He apparently took a liking to me, but I cannot say I reciprocated and it left this white-bread California boy a bit shaken.

The second time to NYC was when we stayed with relatives in New Jersey for a week. I do not remember the city, but I remember the sound of mosquitoes banging on the netting while we slept on the back patio. Anyway, my female cousin who was a year older than I (I think I was sixteen, maybe seventeen at the time) decided we were going to go see a Yankees game. We were dropped off at the subway station and proceeded to Yankees Stadium, two under-aged teens riding the subway unescorted. It was an uneventful ride, but to this day I remember sitting about a dozen rows behind the third base dugout on a gloriously sunny New York  day. While I am a Giants fan, I still have a soft spot in my heart for the NY Yankees - it was my first professional baseball game and I will never forget it.

Years later, I often traveled to New York on business, and would often stay in Manhattan near our regional sales office. I don't have many memorable experiences with regard to food or culture (my business trips were in and out, too often within the span of two days), but did take a walking tour of Wall Street and environs once, and was shocked to my core when I saw the remnants of the World Trade Center. This was before it became a monument, so it was an unfinished, very large, hole in the ground. After demolition they got the subway station back in operation, and I took the subway to New Jersey and back for a customer visit.

We had a regional sales conference in New Jersey one year before 9/11, and I was struck how "dark" the New York skyline was. Flying back into SFO I was equally struck by how "light" San Francisco was in comparison. Mordor versus Gondor, with apologies to my New York-based flight sim friends.

Actually......have!  And I agree!  I was considering pizza in the U.S.  The place in Naples was called 7 Coins.  It was on a corner and had a wood-fired oven.  4.50 Euros for the best seafood pizza on the planet!

The true test of a good pizza is  Margherita...  Sauce, cheese and a few sprigs of basil.

I started to recommend Mama Caruso's pizza but then I realized that wouldn't have meant anything to you. My wife's family is from Gaeta - a little town on the coast just up the road from Napoli and just down the road from Roma. And there Mama Caruso makes the most delicious pizza in the world. I have a standing order for a  large pizza anytime we visit there. She starts with Margherita and then adds what she calls "the touch".  I have no idea what she does but it beats even the real thing. Now that we can fly again we're going back in April for a long-postponed visit. And I can't wait. Ciao.......Doug

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing.

Before I’d been to Italy, like most Americans, I had a few places in the US that I considered the best pizza ever.

Then, I went to Italy, Naples being one place, and it changed my taste for pizza completely. By far the best pizza I’d ever had. Granted I’ve also eaten pizza in Florence and Rome, and they, in my opinion, are pretty much like the ones I’d eaten in Naples.

My wife likes the margherita, but I always go for the one called the Diavola. I enjoy it with a Peroni or an Americano (cocktail not coffee).

Luckily I found a place in Dallas that makes pizza about as close to what I can get in Italy. The owner had a pizza oven shipped from Naples to Dallas and they make their own mozzarella. The place is called Cane Rosso.

This is a photo of the last Diavola I ate in Italy last year.

Thanks for that one. My youngest son lives in Irving and is always hitting/working the jazz clubs in Dallas (he plays a pretty good bass) and he, too, loves pizza. I just sent the tip on to him.....Doug

You’re welcome. Since he’s in Irving, he’s kind of between some of the locations. They have 6 in north Texas and I’ve been to four of them. Typically I go to the one in Frisco by The Star which is where the new Cowboys practice facilities is.

I’ll be back in Italy and France over Christmas and New Years next month and am already licking my chops thinking about the food.

Coincidentally the section best pizza I ever had was at a brassiere in Paris across from the famous Père Lachaise cemetery. My wife went to the cemetery to see the graves of Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, and all the other notable people buried there. When we were done I needed a bite so we stopped at a place called La Factorie across the street. I saw they had a few pizzas so I figured I’d try the Quatre Fromages (4 cheese pizza). Man it was so good I can even explain it. I’ll probably go there again when I’m in Paris next month. It was different from the Italian pizza but wonderful none the less.

Link to Cane Rosso for your son.

😂😂🤮🤮

Well to be honest, when I was a kid in the mid to early 90’s, I liked Dominoes as well, but not since then. I think back then they were ok, but somewhere along the line the chain changed ownership and it went downhill from there.

One of my all time favorite American pizza places in the 70’s and 80’s was called Round Table Pizza. Man, it was a super treat to go there for dinner. They had them in Arizona where I grew up and also in California, but not sure what other states. Something happened to them and most of them closed.

I never cared for most of the other big pizza chains like Pizza Hut, Shakey’s, Little Cesar, etc. The only other pizza I’ll eat in Dallas is either i Fratelli or Fire Side Pies. But, now that I have Cane Rosso, those other places don’t get much action.
