Vaughan is a complete waste of space. How on earth did he ever get the mod job?

Are you sure he's a mod?

The odd time(s) that I've posted there, without fail, on he comes with question after question after question.......and then his usual:-  a link to the 'General Debugging Steps'. 😬

I'm taking an educated guess. Or maybe an uneducated one! 🤣

Hi Ray,

I use the program "Airport Design Editor" to check the details of an airport. Here is the information it gives me about the parking assignments in the default version of LPPR in P3Dv4. I hope it will help you to compare:

There are a lot of changes regarding coordinates at the airports between v4 and v5 and lots of scenery objects were replaced.

For my personal use only I begun to update and recompile FSX (Ray Smith) and P3Dv2+3+4 afcads. It is a lot of work and sometimes it is not satisfying because buildings are missing (old scenery objects) or misplaced.

There is also a guy over at the library providing afcads for v5 based on default P3Dv5 airports. Explicit stated these are not eye candy and mostly for VATSIM use but at least there are more parking spots available. Monthly updates based on the actual AIRAC. Disadvantage: no specified parking space for real airlines, so reduced experience of AI traffic based on real live data.

In every version of Microsoft Flight Sim (the original) and then P3D I have never known things to take a retrograde step. v5 stands out as being the first with a huge reduction in parking positions.

Unless LM issue updated AFCADs I may not buy another version. Their continued silence shows a distinct lack of respect for their customers.

The problem with his AFCADS is that none of the parking spaces are connected to the taxiways, so AI traffic can't park there.  I was pretty bummed when I downloaded his airports.

I've already fixed a number of v5 airports myself and will be uploading them in the near future.

Man, that sucks, and it affirms my stance that P3Dv5 was released prematurely with serious deficiencies in EA implementation, lighting - and now, as it turns out, in the number of gates at default airports.

I am glad that I opted to buy v4 last year instead of v5, notwithstanding the lower performance (my GPU did not have enough VRAM for v5 anyway, haha). If the sim will continue heading in this direction, I will also not buy a new version in the future.

Agreed. In the race to beat MSFS to market, it seems more and more that P3Dv5 was unfortunately half baked.

Both were half baked IMHO. I usually avoid early access titles, and both of these titles should have been labeled 'Early Access'.  Like Ray, I'm giving Lockheed Martin the benefit of the doubt, but their silence is completely deafening.

Unfortunately, consumers these days seem to accept early access crud just so they can satiate their need for instant gratification...and the production companies know it and take advantage of that, and get their instant flow of cash from those who need instant gratification...viscous circle.

And the real problem with half baked early access titles is the 'fanboi's will defend the product to the death, deficiencies and all...others will accept that this is they way it is now with software (the 'oh well' mentality)...the production companies have their money, so there is no appetite for the company to fix anything...and the whole cycle will begin anew with the next version release (I've seen people here talking about v6 already...) because everyone is all glittery eyed with the new shiny object they swing in front of you.

Just a thought. It probably won't work but for those who have v3 or v4 have you considered if the BGLs in Scenery\nnnn\scenery might work in v5? These are the files that contain the AFCAD info including parking positions.

nnnn represents a 4 digit number and there are 96 of these folders ranging from 0000 to 1107.

LATER: I renamed APX21250.BGL and replaced it with the one from v3. This covers the MMMX airport and others. P3D loaded just fine. Thoughts?

Interesting...the things I could see a possibility losing are updated runway idents, and maybe sloped runways(??).  There are a few dozen of those with default airports...but frankly, I don't care about runway idents/sloped runways vs. parking spots.

Maybe see what it does with a sloped airport? I dug up a few that are supposedly sloped from another post:

@netshadoe, yes, I appreciate runway designations would be affected but for default airports that’s not a major concern. Most of my serious IFR flying is with purchased ones.

The easiest way to do this if others want to try is:-

1) Backup your scenery.cfg.

2) Open it with Notepad+ and find all the entries with scenery\nnnn and copy them into a new text file.

3) Using find & replace change v5 to either v4 or v3 depending on which other version of P3D you have.

4) Select the modified entries and paste them over the existing entries in scenery.cfg. Save the file.

If v5 could accept a v3 AFCAD it suggests it should work en masse. I haven’t tried an airport with a sloped runway. It’s likely it will remain flat.

But if this works then we could get the parking position problem sorted.

Have you used MyTraffic 6?  I think yes if my memory serves me right. That traffic add-on brings its own AFCAD files for most major airports around the world, and although I bought the version MT5.4, I still use their AFCAD for most airports in P3Dv4, since they provide more parking slots with more accurate placement of terminals. Keep in mind that the default airports in P3Dv4 and earlier use very old data that goes back to the release of FSX in 2006. I am sure that it will work with v5 if it worked with v4 or v3.
