Which Version To Go For?

Recommended Posts

After a very long hiatus, I am as a former FSX, FSX-SE and P3Dv4 User, having ditched any form of flightsimming for a long while, pondering a return to simming again. Probably via MSFS20 as I have noticed a great deal of Add-ons now being developed for MSFS20 albeit despite all the cash spent on the now-redundant FSX, FSX-SE, and P3D Add-ons

Question I pose, which version of MSFS20 to go for as I now have the rig I had aspired for i.e. Intel i7-8086k, GeForce 1080Ti; 32Gb GSkill, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, 2Tb M.2. NVMe, SanDisk 2Tb SSD Main Drive, 2Tb SATA 7200, Benq EW32-in monitor.? Hopefully, I may get a few pointers here to kickstart a hobby I once actively indulge in.

@vc10man, welcome back Rick. Nice to see you back simming.

I’ve moved your post to the main  MSFS forum. The T&T subforum is not for questions. 😉

I went for premium, as I wanted some of the aircraft and airports that came with that version.  I’d say look at the lists of extra aircraft and airports and see if any interest you, those are really the only differences between versions.

I bought on steam as generally I find it more reliable than the Microsoft Store.

The only difference between versions are the number of aircraft and airports you get. Take a look at the list and see if the additional ones in the deluxe and premium packages are ones you are interested in and would use. I went with the standard version because I knew ultimately I would end up flying only pay ware aircraft and preferred to keep the extra money for those addons.

Go for premium. I heard users who wanted to upgrade but no who wanted to down grade.

Basic is all you need if you are wiling to spend on quality airports and airplanes. Basic operates no better or worse than Premium.

Edit: And there is a great quality freeware site flightsim.to that have great free scenery and aircraft addons.

I'd offer that the Citation Longitude, which is included in the Premium version, alone is worth the extra cost. (Although you'll need to get the freeware mods for the Longitude and the G3000 to make it a happy aircraft.)

Aircraft mod

G3000 mod

I like the Dreamliner.   Many hate default aircraft,  but Working Title is supposedly planning to work their magic on the Dreamliner like they did with the CJ-4.

Thank you very much to all who replied. Great words of encouragement there, guys. I was not aware that my post had replies as I was awaiting the thumbs-up from the Moderator.

Looks like I will opt for the Premium version via Steam as I already have an account with them, and now thanks to Ray, in a way, have similar hardware, so I feel I should be able to cope.

Will update as and when I start the slow climb back 'in the saddle'.

If I go the 10 CDs route, is it still possible to get all the latest Updates?

You can do the disc deal, but what's the point (I guess you can save them and hope they become collector's items) You could wait till after this coming thursday then just do the download.

The 18th is when the next patch comes out. Premium would be the only way you can get the 172 with steam gauges, rather than "glass".

The disc versions are more trouble than they are worth.

With the premium version - personally I fly the Beech Baron, the Cirrus SR22, Steam gauge Cessna 172, Cessna Longitude and the Pipistrel Virus (under-rated gem of a plane for sight seeing)  a lot so well worth it for me.

Same here and don’t regret my choice. I wouldn’t have flown the premium or deluxe default aircraft anyway and the enhanced airports as nice as they are, are still inferior to payware or even to some freeware.

Don’t go the CD route. They carry the initial version meaning you still have to do several huge updates anyway. Wait for the last version released coming Thursday.
