Stock GPS On Second Monitor

Recommended Posts

Guest SimDog

I have a request. While waiting for RXP to release their GNS530 for FSX, I decided to use the stock 500 GPS. The problem is, when I undock and drag the gauge to a second monitor, I see a huge fps drop. I never had this problem with FS9 and the RXP GNS530.Could someone try dragging the 500 to a second screen and see if there is or is not a performance drop. Many Thanks,SD

Hi,FSX is NOT good when "undocking" windows. I also have a drop of 5 to 8 FPS when undocking. A pity !FS9 was beter !

>Hi,>FSX is NOT good when "undocking" windows. This must go up then. Hope to hear more helpful comments both from the users and the devs, multimonitor environment is something I've been using since FS2002.

Have you tried full screen mode? I see no FR drop in multi-monitor operation with full screen. There is a bit of aanoyance factor because the panels have to be moved and resized every time you start FSX. R-

You don't say whether you are refering to Windowed or Full Screen mode, have you tried both. I have used my second monitor in full screen mode to hold all the auxillary panels for an aircraft which included the standard GPS and had little or no frame rate drop. It may depend on your Video card memory or speed. I use an Nvidia 8800GTX card which will eat anything FSX can throw at it (because FSX is mainly CPU dependant). When you think about it, use of the second monitor is in the main a graphics subsystem issue so if you have a performance drop then I would look to the graphics subsystem as the likely culprit.

There is a trick to getting panels to stick in full screen mode but it can be done.Arrange the panels how you want in VC Windowed mode.Go to full screen and finalise panel positions and sizes.Go back to WINDOWED mode and save your flight (this will save the Full Screen Panel positions).I would advise always starting and ending your flight in windowed mode as I am not sure if the full screen panel positions will be preserved if you save in Fullscreen mode. This was the same technique that I used in FS9. This technique does work I have tried it and checked it although I usually fly with one screen in VC with FSX (with the right aircraft of course). This is the second time I have given this technique in the forum. Maybe MS should put something up on FSinsider about this.

I have a little FPS drop, but not nearly as much as FS9.One of the things I like about FSX, that I have not seen anyone else mention, is that I do not have to do the undock-dock dance to move panels to my second monitor. In full screen mode, I can move the GPS or any pop-up panel, right on over to the second monitor. I could not do this in FS9.Have you tried this?I'm running two CRTs on the two monitor outputs of a single XFX Nvidia 6800GT card.Ted

Yes, but can you reload the same flight and have your GPS/Panels appear on the second monitor as per your last flight automatically?
