The haze is out of control

Recommended Posts

Hello Gang!

Is Asobo aware that the haze needs to be addressed?  I just took a circuit flight around KDFW where super clear skies dominate the day today and I felt I was flying around New Delhi or Beijing - I could barely see out the window with all that unrealistic haze/smog.  Granted, I rather have unrealistic haze that lightning in clear skies, but this needs to be looked at.

Haze? I see no haze. Just low, low, very low clouds,

It's a bug or a feature....not yet sure.  But in the US where visibility is reported at 10 miles even though it's much more than that and clear the sim is capping the visiblity with haze at 10 miles.  However the haze is overdone and even though it should be 10+ miles it's actually making the vis less than 10 miles.  This seems to be happening anywhere in the US where the METAR shows 10 miles visibility.  Anyway it's wrong and hopefully they will get it fixed soon.  Other countries where visibility gets reported higher than 10 miles don't have the issue.

It’s because in US automatic weather stations only can report up to 10 miles. Given that METAR only covers area within 5 miles from the airport 10 miles is more than enough. Obviously Asobo not aware of that . It can be a simple parser fix for US only.

This may be right, but the visibility today in the Intermountain states was truly weird. From 10,000 feet or so, it was CAVU, but at KLAR it was less. Not only that, because the OAT was below 0C, it quickly iced over the G36TC leading to an ignominious stall/spin way short of the runway. No doubt, there's a straightforward fix to this, but in the meanwhile yours truly will be flying around the southeastern US for a while.

Best wishes to the AVSIM community for a Happy Thanksgiving.

I see this haze all the time. I think it is terribly overdone. Asobo missed their mark by miles on this one. Every one of my USA-based flights in SU7 - almost impossible to fly VFR approaches as you cant see the runway until you are almost on it.

I am avoiding flying in the US because of the haze. I was in Brazil again this morning, no haze at all.

I also took a quick (very quick) flight from KDAL to KDFW this morning.  Way too much haze.  When Dallas has high pressure and high winds it is crystal clear.

They'll fix it - I hope.

New Delhi has been witnessing record levels of smog and toxic air pollution, prompting schools and offices to close for multiple days.

So when you’re seeing reduced visibility in this city in the sim, it’s realistic, but the issue is that the sim doesn’t differentiate between smog,  haze, sandstorms etc and instead implements haze as a one-size-fits-all solution. This rendition needs to be improved.

No they're not aware of it.  In fact they developed the entire sim and never looked at any newly implemented code prior to launching the intial release and all subsequent updates.  Considering that it's pretty remarkable how good it actually is.  And of course they're completely done now with all development unless you can let them know what you've discovered so they can fix it...

It's time you get REX Weather Force to always have a second option for weather.  I always had options for weather with previous sims but got used to FS2020 being decent with default options.  With these Sim Updates constantly breaking things it's best to have other options for as much as we can until issues are fixed.  Weather is an easy one to get around default shenanigans.

I say this because Asobo shouldn't have killed the beta team prematurely and if they couldn't get people before the holidays hold off on the update until it can be properly tested.  With what we had most if not all had no problem waiting for the next update until January.  Reno could have still been released.

Next time, maybe just don’t comment. This reply was just a waste of space.
